I've just purchased my 2001 ls430 and was looking for wheels and ran across a set on the forum. I know the tires will be just an inch short in diameter but in your opinion will the size, offset, and tires be a good fitment for my car?

The fronts are 20x8.5 with a +40 with a 245/30/20
The rears are 20x10 with a +42 with a 285/25/20


Also, whats the best way to lower the ride? I would imagine just an 1'' would be good to set the rims off. I wouldn't want to be slammed. I'm sorry if I sound like a noob but thanks for your help!

Good fitment really depends on what you're trying to accomplish with your build up.

If you want to lower the ride, I'd suggest a set of springs for a static drop. Or if the budget allows, a set of coilovers. I'd probably end up doing coilovers if I were you, because your car is almost 10 years old...might be time for a shock replacement anyway.

I don’t know how other members feel about 30/25 series tires but to me they ride harsh and not comfortable. Maybe it’s the roads I drive on but I myself personally wouldn’t get them anymore. Plus the LS430 is a lot heavier then other models so 245/35/20 and 275/30/20 is more suitable IMO. As for lowering the car you best of getting coilover because it give you the advantage of lowering and raising the car to which ever height you desire.

Excuse my ignorance why do people put different sizes on front and rear i.e 30 series front 35 series rear

They actually might be the same height, depending on the section width.

245/35 85.75mm sidewall (approx)
275/30 82.5mm sidewall (approx)

that sounds like a perfrect size, not too agressive so its def streetable as a daily.

i have 22" lexanis on my car with 235/30/22s and it rides great. most of the ride comfort on a lexus is built into the suspension not into the tire like other manufacturers.


sorry about the crappy cell phone picture but on a side note i would bet that as long as the wheels will clear the caliper than those offsets should be ok on that car.

Primarily,to try and maintain overall diameter at each end. As a tyre gets wider,the aspect ratio has to go down to keep the outside diameter the same. You want to keep the overall diameter as close to standard as you can,both for fitting the tyre under the guards,and to keep your speedo and ABS working correctly.

Large differences in both width and profile between ends of the car will give you odd handling but most people driving these cars wouldn't notice as they're unlikely to push hard.

Put in your stock tyre size on the left side,and mess around on the other,comparing various combinations.

I've found these things invaluable for deciding on what sized wheels to buy for various cars over the years.
Pick a combination you like the look of,ring bob jane and price the tyres,and then decide if you want to do it or not.

I purchased rims for my lexus LS430 the rim size is 17x7.5 with +35 offset.
I got these to mount my winter tires on, but the offset seems too much and the tire is very close to the front fender , I think it may rub the front fender but the tire dealer says they wont. any way be sure to make sure the rim and tire will remain inside front fender when mounted
