Default weird Tranny Issue anyone experience this before and/or any ideas

Car is a 04 LS with 67k on the clock and the car is shifting weird. I will be driving normal and need to accelerate quickly and when I push the gas the rpm goes up without the car accelerating and then the trans slams into gear and the car takes off. You can actually feel the slamming into gear. Yesterday at highway speeds I accelarate to merge onto the highway and the car stay in that gear, it would not shift it just stayed in whatever gear it was in and each time I press the gas the rpm just heads toward red and tranny does not shift. It remained like that until I stop and shut the car off and then it was back to normal. The issues only occurs whenever I am drving and need to accelerate really fast, no issue at normal low speed driving, just a weird issue. Using the search I found a TSB for poor low speed a/t shifting but I am not sure if it covers this issue. I have not tried a battery reset but I have an apointment on Wed as I believe I still have powertrain warranty until 72k, can someone confirm this for me.

yep take it to dealer service asap and I'd suggest not driving until then.

Have you ever had the transmission serviced? Fluid may need to be replaced.

Ok I will give an update after I get back from the dealer on Wednesday. Thanks for the response. I also thought fluid change was not needed until major service at 90k even though they "claim" its a seal system.

If i'm not mistaken, some of the early 04' models had tranny recalls.

Hmm...I just bought my 04 and looking through the service records the fluid was flushed and refilled at 50k miles. I wonder if the previous owner asked for that or if the dealership recommended it.

Update - The dealer could not duplicate the issue and refuse to go on a test drive because I needed rear tires so new tires came in yesterday and I will go make another appointment to see if I an get this resolved. I definately think a tranny update should fix this issue so will definately push for that when I go in next week.

check your service history to see if the tranny was ever serviced/replaced for the known issue with 04' tranny. mine was by previous owner, but i still have issues where shift from P to D or R has slight delay; you can feel the slight rock in the car when the shift occurs. i've delayed tranny flush fearing that it might get worse and become a $$$ repair/replace.

Are there any codes? It may be one of the transmission solenoids sticking.

hmm for the shifter solenoid, you would think they would have been able to determine if that was the issue from their initial check, I will mention that to them when I go back. Thanks. The dealer told me they could not duplicate the issue and I have no check engine light on.

The LS430 transmission actually has 5 shift solenoids. It's not unusual for one of them to go bad with age or mileage. If you do a search, you should find some additional info. Your rise in RPM without a corresponding response from the tranny is one of the symptoms of a bad solenoid. If the car is turned off when this happens, sometimes it may go back to normal for a short time, but then the problem returns.

Despite what Toyota/BMW, etc. say about their "lifetime" tranny fluids, no fluid is lifetime. I wouldn't run the WS tranny fluid more than 45K mi w/o a transfusion. You symptoms sound like the torque converter isn't engaging/disengaging when it should. My guess is your torque converter is functioning properly, just the solenoid or something is not telling/allowing it to shift at the proper time. Once you get to about 48mph, the torque converter should by 100% engaged when in gear. Before that, there is constant slippage in any automatic so the tranny will feel "smooth." Only with a manual does the clutch fully engage at lower speeds (ie, when you release your foot)
