LS430 '02 Bright Red Speedo/Tach Needles
Hi All -
New to the forum but am a long time Lexus owner (started in '93 w/ a '90 LS400).
I just bought an '02 LS430 w/ lux pkg & 41k So. Cal. miles and so far, it's been a dream ride. My better half drives a 2006 LS430 which triggered my purchase. Got mine after finally deciding to sell our '90.
O.K. my question - I drove it at night for the first time yesterday and was surprised at how bright the red was on the speedometer and tach needles. I do realize there's a dimmer **** but even dimmed, the red is pretty bright. Was wondering if there's any other way to tone down the red?
TIA for any help and safe driving to all ...

First off, welcome to the club, Will!
I just checked my car and the gauges dim to a point, then go completely out. It is not infinitely adjustable down to zero...there is a theshold so I know what you mean.
Personally, the red does not bother me at night but I can see how it might if you are sensitive to the red color spectrum. I do not see a way around it other than perhaps wearing some lightly tinted glasses at night. Or as romeo suggested, it really is not far-fetched to consider putting an exterior tint layer on the gauge plastic. I would talk to a professional tinting shop about a red filter material.

Thx Randal and Romeo -
Think I'll leave it as is as I'll probably get used to it fairly quickly and my night driving is rare. Had just noticed my better half's 2006 430 had white (toned down) needles so was surprised by the red. Must have been somewhat of an issue or the designers at Lexus wouldn't have changed.
Btw, am in no way complaining. The car is truly a pleasure to drive. After 17 years of owning LS's (4 of 'em), we wouldn't have anything else.
Again, thx for the welcome !
