I have a 2001 Diamond Pearl 430 and it's my daily driver(hwy miles) it currently has 175k miles and runs like a gem. The first timing belt change was done at 131,000 miles and the belt looked perfect. These cars will run forever as long as you take care of them. I am suprised to hear the amount of problems the poster has had with his as well as the absurd cost to fix. I see complete 430 engines with 30,000 miles selling for 5k. My goal is to put at least 300k on my car than think about selling.

At 170k miles, if the leak is not too bad in the steering box you might be able to just top off the power steering fluid every few weeks. I don't normally recommend stop leak products but it might be worth a try in a high mile car. There are specific additive products sold to help stop leaks in power steering.

Yeah fellow members. I never really go for service or repairs any place but a Lexus dealer but, in this case and this members issues I would go to an independent mechanic. They have plenty in most metro areas in the USA. We have a few in the Norfolk/VA Beach area that have good reps for Japanese autos as well as Euro makes. If not a independent go to a Toyota spot. That can at least save a few bucks. Sounds to me at 170,000 miles that if there was a previous owner they neglected the car. First I have heard of a 170,000 mile car having these type issues so early.

Also, I6turbo makes some valid points. Get a second opinion. I would have it checked out without telling the place I get second opinion from what issues were. Sometimes places jack up prices and the economy has hurt car sales and the service repairs department of ALL dealers has always been the most lucrative in the car business!!!

Be cautious fellow member and look around for a better deal. I do for myself and my lady all the time. Be patient my friend! Its business and the dealer nor anyone your paying is your friend. Look out for yourself and your wallet! L.G.N.M

thanks for the input guys. I'm planing to get a second opinion. the steering box leak that the dealer told me about sounds fishy to me cuz i should see something on the ground specially when i park it over the night or at least i should see the steering oil level drop otherwise where is it leaking. Second thing is anybody aware of a good online retailer for OEM parts?

I think i well go with fixing way still believe it has 2-3 years to go

Excuse me for my not so good english It looks like your car is starting to have malfunctioned problem with part by part. If you do decide to replace what the dealer recommended that doesn’t mean other parts won’t fail later on. For example engine seals, alternator, distributor and etc. Of course they want you to believe that you’re going to be good for another 100K but will they actually have that in fine print for you?

If the steering rack is leaking then the rubber boots on the rack will hold quite a lot of PS fluid before you'll see anything on the ground (If the boots aren't split). A rebuilt rack is about $350 plus labor. I've saw one LS go 400k on one engine and transmission and it's still going.
