And then tell your friends on the LS forum how sorry you are, how big a mistake it was and how it won't happen again.

If my LS was destroyed by some means within the next 12 months, I'd get an 06 LS430 w/Custom Lux. I sooooo want door closers and radar/laser cruise.
If 12+ months, I'd say it's 75% LS460 (maybe L), or 25% Range Rover Sport HSE. I typically do NOT like SUV's but the more I look at the 2007+'s, I am falling in love...

I've found the door closers to be nearly useless. I seldom close the door so lightly that it doesn't latch. However, the laser adaptive cruise control is awesome.

Just to chime in here, I would get a 460 with the executive luxury package. I think that the extra cash is more than worth it for an almost maybach! It would be so cool to hire a driver every once in a while when the wife and I or me and a buddy want to go out and have a few drinks without the need to worry about a DWI.

Useless
Ahhhh.. NEARLY useless means it still useful.... hee hee.
You don't have kids, but it's quite useful for when they're sleeping and you need to open and close the door without them waking up. You gently let the door touch and "emmmmmmmmmm" the door closes.
Also, someone else mentioned it here some time ago, the most useful use of the door closers is for when you get home late at night and the wife is sleeping and you don't want to alert her to your arrival.

I'll have to try that when I arrive home from work in the afternoon as a means of sneaking in without the dog mugging me.

Strange thing, but my '03 doors closed differently than my '05 (no auto-close on either one). The '05 requires a more deliberate push to make them close and latch completely, while the '03 would fully close with the gentlest push. I almost never failed to close the '03 doors completely, while both my wife and I were frequently not closing the '05 doors completely for the first 2-3 months after we switched from the '03 to '05. It was definitely a noticeable difference, and it was my recollection that the doors felt slightly different, but that part (about a different feel) might have been my imagination.

As much as I love my LS, I never purchase the same car twice. I cycle between luxo and sports convertible, so the next one will be a sports convertible.
I've gone through BMW, then Mercedes SL, then Audi, then Honda S2000, to this LS430.
Next one hopefully will be an Aston Martin Vantage or DB9 convertible (used of course as I'm not flushed). or I just go SUV and get a Porsche Cayenne Turbo S

If my LS were stolen or wrecked in the near future then I would get another 430 but upgrade to the CL. Another two years down the road and it would become a 460. I LOVE my 430. As Caddy said... "what more could we want?"
