The interior of a black car is the same as a white car when it stabilizes after sitting in the sun. It just heats up quicker than the white car. Consequently, when people drive around, park, come back from shopping or whatever, the black car will be hotter than the white car in a shorter time period.

I know this because my colleagues and I conducted tests of the interior of different cars at our work place to determine the effect of car covers. If the seat is shaded, all the cars stabilized at the same temperature. The car covers reduced the temperature by 20F for a normalized ambient temperature of 110F at 2 p.m. (from 150F to 130F).

This 20F makes a huge difference in cooling the car down. I could almost sell car covers after doing this test.

Don't intend to hijack your posting, just trying to share info on temperature and car colors. If you don't believe this, no problem, not trying to cause an argument. OK?

Wow that's very hard to believe that there is no temp difference in car colors on car interiors.

I know a black car sitting in the sun has a much hotter surface temperature than a white car. The temp difference between the two colors in full sun is significant.

Anyone can test this themselves in any summer sun parking lot (assuming you live in the South, up North all bets are off). Just find a white car and put your hand on the hood surface it will be warm but not uncomfortable at all, then find a black car and try to put your hand on the hood surface. You won't be able to hold your hand on the black car for more than 6-7 seconds without getting a burn, the black surface is literally scorching hot. So I would think that this huge difference in surface temperature would transfer into the car interior and create a significant difference inside the car even over a long period of time. So its hard for me to buy in to the notion that all car interiors normalize at same temp no matter what color exterior is. Hard to believe but if you have the test data there it is. btw - one of my daughters wanted a black car (in Georgia) so one summer day we were walking into a mall and I told her if she could hold her hand on the hood of a black car in the parking lot and count to 10 I would allow her to get a black car. She quickly learned that was impossible, then I asked her to try the same on a light colored car - she was shocked at the temp difference - and never asked about a black car again.

Well thought I would update this thread before it goes to far to the back.

First, BIG thanks to the members of Club Lexis. I am very happy with the my silver LS430 UL. Its cleaner than I anticipated and I can't argue about the miles...63000 when I picked her up. Her are the pics. I won't be doing any mods for a while since this is my first Lexus and I want to enjoy her stock. Thanks again!!!!!




As for the Black LS430 UL, the guy lied and didn't have a buyer because I saw his post on craigslist asking for $17000. Another $1000 from the previous price he ask.

Silver....All very good points. The one that sticks out most to me is Miniz...Do you really want to buy a 9 year old black car? The silver probably still looks new and IMHO the cream interior wears so much better than black. Have you ever gotten in a black interior with a little dust on your feet?

Sorry...I was a bit behind... Congrats. That is a GORGEOUS car!!!!

I love that dark wood with the cream. I wish they did that in the latter years.
