I've been reading with interest on the Forum about different "fixes" for the infamous broken front cup holder. I have a broken arm on the passenger side holder that really bugs me.
I have now found a good Velcro system to work until I have enough energy and funds to effect a proper repair.
Simply put, I used two adhesive Velcro patches to secure a Velcro band in lieu of the missing cup holder arm.
I'll try to attach some pics to explain, if I can figure out how to attach photos! Hope this is of some use to someone.

Same here. I'd do that to my tacoma but for my Lexus its back to the dealer for parts. I'm just like that though.

I also considered using velcro or a thick piece of back rubber. My approach (screws) will not come apart as easily. I was afraid of the velcro coming off and falling down inside the cupholder compartment.

Excellent idea - I think your velcro solution is pretty cool. As a suggestion to increase the usability and robustness of the velcro solution: First I'd use longer strips (maybe 2 inches?) of the velcro anchor material (the stuff with the hooks) at each side of the cup holder so that the point of attachment contact is larger and stronger. Second I'd use a longer strip of the fuzzy Velcro material (the stuff with the fuzz) to fashion the loop part so that the cup holder diameter could be more adjustable to accommodate and be custom adjustable for various drink container sizes.

I love the idea of the original fix but the velcro is a great option. I am still not sure how the screwed in plastic closes to hide away...

Considering the greateness of the LS as a whole, the cupholders are worse then from any econobox I have ever seen. I gave up using mine due to the fact that my beverage is thrown out when breaking moderatelly. Thankfully I saw the shortfall of this design and wasn't inclined to open said beverage due to the hazards.

Now, on the other hand, the cupholders in my previous vehicle, 2003 Honda Accord, could accomodate 40 oz slurpee without breaking a sweat.

On my old '94 LS400 I could keep any sort of drink in the cup holder and drive anyway I wanted including harsh braking...drink was still in its place...

On my new LS430, I think it wants to fly out every time I turn...terrible design
