3 years ago I bought a used LS430 and hoped the sound system was better then my 1999 LS400.

Sadly, not really.

Primary complaint? Low sub bass was non-existent, it sounded flat and didn't have the 'deep' punch you should feel in some music.

1 year later, the sub blew and had it replaced under factory warranty.

Bass suddenly had very powerful low bass, the kind that you feel in your chest.

Was happy for another year, until I blew a front passenger speaker, replaced on my dime, again sound returned amazing.

last month a friend accidentally turned to volume all the way up for a brief second and...

the bass is stuck in flat mode.

The sub in in fact working fine, but the frequencies it produce are just like they were.

At this point I am not sure if the ML has a feature to limit frequencies it believes could damage the system or there was partial damage to the amp or voice coil.

Any thoughts before I hate my car all the time?

Hit your friend and it sounds like your sub is damaged. Voice coil may be damaged.

Yeah, I have the same no bass problem. When I bought the car the two front door speakers were blown and sub did not work. So I replaced speakers with Infiniti reference series and sub with JL Audio 8W0. The system was shutting down when volume was cranked up so I added an amp just for the sub and system was ok. Now I want to change front and sub again but this time with sound dreadening of all doors and rear deck, and put some good expensive speakers and sub.
