Default Auto Dimming Mirrors Stopped Working

I have a 04 LS430 and the auto dimming system (rear view/side mirrors) do not work anymore when driving at night. Has anyone had this problem with your car?

I don’t know if this is a common issue, I wonder if there is something wrong with the sensors. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My rear view mirror dims, but the outside rear window do not. Never did even when I got it, so I was not sure that it was actually a function. I presume your mirror did work and now it doesn't? If so, then I need to get mine fixed too.

It is wife's car I thought they dim as well when I drove it before, maybe it's just the rear view mirror.

Will schedule an appointment in a few weeks to check out, hopefully it's no big deal.

I had though from the instruction manual that the outside also dimmed (I have '04) but if this many people's mirrors are not dimming, then maybe they don't, or Lexus has a big problem with outside mirrors...

My outside mirrors don't dim either... normally.

I did drive through my Bank drive thru one morning recently with the sunroof fully open. It was early morning (7AM) and the drive thru area was covered and quite dark. My auto headlamps were on, and the interior mirror dimmed as I guess it was light enough outside to cause this to happen. Amazingly, the side mirrors also dimmed and were almost as dark (or as dark) as the interior mirror. So they definitely can dim and can be dark - but mine don't in normal operation. It was cool though when they were dimmed.

I'll get this checked at my dealer at the next service interval (Nov) and report back.

Hem, so if yours is working, then the auto dimming only works when it's TOTALLY DARK outside, not when there is light... now that would be weird if that's how it works.

I'd say it was maybe 20% light level under the drive thru covering vs maybe 50% light level in the open. It was dark enough out for my headlamps to switch to "on" in the AUTO position.

It would be funny if mine do work if a certain % light level exists, and anything outside of that it doesn't. LOL.
