Upgrade 01 LS430 Nav to Gen 4 IT WORKS! (photos added)
I found mention of this in one thread but wanted to see if anyone here has actually done this. I have an 01 LS430 with the gen 2/3 NAv in it. Is it true that I can just swap out the Nav Disc reader in the trunk for one out of any 04-06 LS430 and use the gen 4 disc and have a complete gen 4 upgrade? Any modifications needed or just a simple plug and play? Thanks!
It works after all. So much faster than the old Nav system and more options.
nothing? lol. I know it's possible with the LX470, another reader did it, and the GS guys do it too. I'm pretty sure it's the same with the LS, just hoping to find someone to confirm it.
I've seen this done on the GS as well. It should be the exact same connectors on the LS as well. The only issue i heard of was the background color not being memorized when changed, and will revert back to the green if i'm not mistaken (on the GS.)
So it SHOULD be a straight plug and play, especially on the LS since it uses the same screen and controls.

i can confirm the gs DOESNT revert back as i have a 2001 gs430 with the gen 4 nav upgrade
anyways just noticed this topic...guys if your looking for the gen 4 update this is the nav ecu you need.

here is a list of vehicles that use the gen 4 nav ecu
i got mine for like 400 for LKQ bought if you shop around you can find them for cheaper btw
im also gonna email these people and see if this will work with my nav headunit (btw the lexus dealership wants like 5k i think for JUST the nav ecu)
then im gonna try and get a gx470 oem dvd/cd player and try and get a harness built for it to sit in the oem spot in my glove box so i have a oem factory dvd/cd player
ONLY DOWNFALL is once you go past the gen 4 version 5 disc the override no longer will work, hence why im trying to find out about the override bypass tool i linked to

keep u posted on that "Nav Kit" Definitely worth $99 to get rid of the I AGREE screen and to allow us to use the Nav while in motion

Whhaaaatttt ??? how would you go about upgrading to gen 5 ???? I have an 06 gs300....if I `can do it, I will sell my unit to someone here....lets hook this up, I dont think there is a gen 4 ---> gen 5 upgrade that has been succesful

good to hear, I'll let everyone know on Wednesday next week. I ordered a DVD player from an 06 Toyota Highlander Hybrid (same player as the 04-06 LS430) so hopefully it works. Maybe it will even come with a disc Stay tuned for updates.
$399. Apparently it's the same unit for several years of the LS430, Highlander, Prius, RX, LX470.... basically almost all toyotas from 04-06 (depending on model) will work
Seems like a great deal. If you have success, I think I'll follow your lead. I'd love to get hte extra functionality of the 04 nav. Do you think the new features extend to the audio interface and features as well?
doubt it, but we'll see. i dont even know what the differences are, anyone? I know it's faster to calculate routes, newer (so I'd expect it to last a little longer than an older one), but other than that I dont know.
