I've had many problems burning music CDs that will play in the factory CD player of my 2004 LS430. Does anyone know the 'magic settings' that ensure no skip, etc?

yeah my magic step is called nero (burning software) and not some cheap cheap cd's outta china.

What format are you using? Don't use CD+/-RW or CD+R, use CD-R, they work better. The CD-R have worked for me almost 100%.

I've always burned a copy of a CD as soon as I purchase it and use it in my car (I don't think a hot car is a good place to store your CD's). I burn it on a CD-R at the same resolution as the new CD. Has never failed to work.

Recently I added a 120GB iPod so I won't be burning CD's any more.

too bad 04 can't play mp3 formats... big bummer... make sure your copy is CD format, not anything else...

Verbatium brand disk - Burn at 2x (though I've burned up to 16x ), slower speed always worked for me. I use Slysoft CloneCD. Never an issue.

I've been using the CD Changer far and in between. I normally hook my iPod to via the Lockpick. Can't beat 6,000 songs on a 80gb drive

My primary source of music is my Media Jukebox version 8 ($15). My computer is wired into my component relatively high end sound system. There is a new free Media Jukebox one out now, MJ 12 as opposed to their Media Center. As I have over 10k selections which are divided in playlists, I can burn my compressed music files to cd as .wav files via the MJ software, usual 20 - 30 .selections per 700 mb cd. Suggest you check out the MJ 12 at www.mediajukebox.com These cd's lay well on virtually any cd player/changer.

Buy some nice CD's and burn at the slowest rate. Worked for me.

I just want to make sure the understanding on speed is correct here. When we say burn at a slower speed, we're talking the burner itself, set it to burn at a slower speed. Not the actually speed rating on the CD itself.

On the CD itself, you actually want to get a higher rating (i.e. 16x, instead of 2x) because the higher number meaning the company is assuring that the CD will burn fine at that high speed.

Anyway, I've always used generic 16x and burned at my burners max (I believe it's 32x) and I've been fine thus far. I would say, just burn the CD-R formats at current preset settings, and if it doesn't work, then turn the speed on the burner down.

OP, has anything worked thus far?

I simply use window media player or itunes. Burn on to a CD-R. No Problems. burn the cd in the computer at x12 or slower.

I had a similar problem in my 06 LS430. I switched to a better quality CD to burn. The store brand ones dont work. Go for the brand names. HUGE DIFFERENCE!!!

Any generic CD would pretty much work, just make sure you convert or purchase a CD burning program that converts MP3's into wav files to be playable in the car. Most programs will have an option for Audio CD as opposed to Mp3 which would nto work in the LS. Nero for example will automatically convert file format and burn onto CD at the same time.

I've burned forever with generic online ones and never had issues. More important is format (CD-R), the burner, and correct programs. Like many have said, Nero is probably best, puts files (no matter what type) straight to CD format. More money for "better quality" in this case doesn't matter to me.
