Default new front brake pad thickness,, anyone know

I pulled the right front wheel to measure the amount of pad left,, a considerable amount of the driving is on the highway,, current mileage is 44K

I measured 5mm left and was curious what the thickness of a new set of pads measure and does anyone know at what thickness the sensor starts to touch,,??

thanks

Derry

Don't exactly remember but I believe it starts rubbing at 2 or 3 mm but it is recommended to change them out around 4mm. I think new pads are around 10mm thick.

I live in AMERICA, I don't use them crazy metrics... ha ha. I do like my 2 liter soda though.

Anyway, I just got new pads and the rear are 6/16" (or 3/8"), while fronts are 7/16", you do the math for mm.

My dealer told me new they were 11mm and to change at 3mm. I just did that for the front wheels at 51,000 miles. The rear were at 5mm and not needing changing right now.

New toyota pads are generally 10mm thick. Min service thickness is around 2mm or so, but be forewarned there is less pad to absorb heat, meaning greater chances your rotors will warp (have nonuniform pad material deposited on the surface in the event of hard braking). I'd change them at around 5mm. Best is to change your rotors at the same time. If there's plenty of rotor material remaining, then make sure you bed the new pads in to burn off the surface residues or brake really easy for the first 100 miles.
