Default A few questions on air suspension conversion please

The driver side front air cylinder(shock) collapsed on my 2001 ls430ul,

so I purchased new shocks and springs from Sewell to convert.

My questions are:

1. at what point in the conversion process do you pull the compressor fuse?

2. are the suspension control actuators on top of the shock removed and discarded or what?

3. can the air lines be removed from the shock without the special tool? If so, how?

4. according to Sewell, the left and right side front replacement parts are the same,

and the left and right side rear replacement parts are the same. I understood them to be

different.

Thanks in advance from an old Vietnam vet.

Hi Alan,

Read through this thread carefully. It has all the info you need. Don't remove any of the air suspension sensors. Just pull the fuse to the compressor. It can be removed if you want.

1. at what point in the conversion process do you pull the compressor fuse? I pulled mine when I was done with installing the new shocks and springs.

2. are the suspension control actuators on top of the shock removed and discarded or what? Yes, they are just removed. Mine are somewhere just sitting in a box.

3. can the air lines be removed from the shock without the special tool? If so, how? I don't know how you're supposed to do it. The lines are plastic so I just cut them with wire cutters. Done.

4. according to Sewell, the left and right side front replacement parts are the same, and the left and right side rear replacement parts are the same. I understood them to be different. Yes, they are the same. Lexus assigns different numbers to the right and left so they can keep track of which side was worked on or replaced. It's just for record keeping.

If you remove the height sensors you will have warning lights on your dash all the time. It's up to you...

Lavrishevo is correct. I just left them alone as they're not bothering anything.

Did anyone ever figure out the flashing AFS light situation? I have a client who has this type of suspension installed and wants the warning lights off. With the 40amp AirSus fuse pulled, the instrument panel reads height hi with the red triangle. If I replace that fuse and pull the 20amp AirSus fuse from the driver side kick panel I get the flashing afs light. Any insight?

Is there anyway to get rid of the height hi message?

Reinstall height sensors. Otherwise, you will not be able to disable the warning. Or possible trick the height sensor connector at each wheel. Afs and the air suspension use the height sensors.

Did you try adjusting them? The computer may think their out of whack. Try to adjust each sensor so when the suspension is loaded the sensor is in the middle of its rang of adjustment.
