To all who had failed air strut in their UL, is the pass side rear the 1st to go bad?

What was the mileage when it failed the 1st time? Just doing a casual survey

the front in my experience, since you hit most bumps/potholes with the front wheels first, then you slow down a bit before hit the rear IMO.

My observations from everyone who posted, the rears goes out 1st for the majority of the people. Your comment made sense, but that's not the reality.

My 2 rears went out when my 2 fronts were still good.

I can't recall the exact mileage. I'd say the first time it went out was around 75k miles and I was using a datasystem control at the time to keep the car lowered.

After I had the strut replaced under warranty, I've since taken off the datasystem and kept the car at stock height. Now at 105k miles at stock height, the strut is failing again. My warranty ended at 100k miles....Sonofa******.

Looks liek this is a recurring issue even after replacing them the first time. Would most of you agree?

I'm at 180k, and feel the over the top bumpy front end when going over even the slightest change in road surface, plus the car sits low on the right rear.

When the struts fail, they leak hydraulic fluid from them. You can see it on the struts.

From my observation, the operating height of the suspension don't have a direct correlation to the longevity of the strut. Most of them fail between 40k~60k miles. Your case is a perfect example.

Of course it is.

I won't call it a recurring issue, it is wear and tear, the strut simply wear out over time, and most of them are done between 40k~60k miles. Is like brake pads or tires, you have to replace them when they are worn out. This seems like a huge deal simply because the strut assembly is $1100 each. If you look at normal shock, most of them wear out somewhere around 100k miles, so these just got a shorter life and cost much more.

Sitting low on the right rear is not a defect, most of them come that way from the factory. It is due to crappy calibration of the auto leveling system.

Leaking hydraulic fluid is definitely a sign of the strut failing.

But the strut can failed without any leakage, when both my rear struts completely failed, their body were bone dry. I removed them from my car myself and inspected them thoroughly.

Purchased a brand new 2001 UL. Sold it to my brother about 5 yrs ago. Has 94k mi. with no major issues of any kind. All scheduled services by dealer. It's always been bone stock.
Bought a 2004 UL last year with 47k. All scheduled services by dealer. Purchased it from 2nd owner while he still had it under CPO warranty. I'm at 52k mi. with no issues thus far.
I have used both Sewell and Park Place (Grapevine) for service and have always been treated like a rock star.

05' UL, both back strut fail around 42k miles..............very bouncy and saw leakage when inspected. Cost an arm and leg to replace with OEM but nothing beat the air ride smoothness.
