Had this absurd, surrealistic experience at a Toyota dealership. Was looking to trade in my 2002 LS430UL for a new car. Blue book value for a trade in (much less for a private party sale) was $17,350. The dealership would only offer me 10K. And the car is in great shape.

So I walked out, and he blew a sale.

What are these cars really getting at resale? I see ads on cars.com from dealers and private parties for about $20K.

mind me asking which dealer in FL?
seems right since the economy is so down and nobody is spending money its hard to sell the car...
as for how much for resale, i think you would get no more than 17k for your car or something around there...
also if you decide to sell GL my 01 has been for sale for about 2 months now

I have sold a few cars in my day and every single time the dealer would offer MUCH, MUCH less than any blue-book 'trade-in' price. I always sold them private party for more. If the dealer offered you $10K don't expect significantly more from any other dealer.

It's gold with the beige leather interior (whatever color you call that.), with 57,350 miles.

I'm looking for blue book value for a trade in, which is $17,275.

Good luck with that we've got a pre certified LS430 going for 20,900 around here and its an 04 with about 60k on it. Granted not UL but still I mean the numbers are very skewed these days.

With that kind of resale, I believe I would drive that Ultra until the wheels fell off. That's plum nuts.

The depreciation on that car is skewed...must be too many available right now with the LS460 out and all the 2006 LS430's coming off lease.

Nothing has resale value anymore. Maybe leasing is the way to go.

A car is worth only what someone is willing to pay for it. In today's economic times, don't expect what KBB, NADA or Edmunds lists. You can do better selling it privately though.

Most you will ever get for this car from a dealer up here in NY is around 12k, if you are looking for 17...Im sorry but you are in Lala land!!

The entire NE of the country follows a book called GALVES....for wholesale values of a car!! In that book your car is worth around...13k with 60k, since dealer never add for miles you are looking for around 12- 13K depending on the condition of the car. 17K...you wont even get that from a private sale. Currently, if you go on autotrader...you can find 04 with lower miles for 19-20k sooo, you do the math, will anyone with the right mind pay 17k for a 02 when newer and updated model is available for 2-3k more.

Not in cloud nine. Just need a legitimate estimate for the worth of the car. If the car is only worth 13K, then that's what I'd expect to get. On the other hand, there are tons of ads for them on cars.com for about $20K. Will they get that much? I'm real curious, to say the least.

Oh, and you couldn't be more wrong about the Landcruiser. Try the opposite extreme.

Cars.com and Autotraders.com are only showing what sellers are "asking" for their vehicles, not for what they eventually sell for. For an '02 UL with 60K+, I would say it's not worth $17K on trade-in. Private sale perhaps, but not trade-in. $10K seems low, but $12k would probably be tops.

I figured it would be one extreme or the other, haha...lemme guess...the Prius (or Yaris?)!

My sister loved hers...'till it got totalled by a drunk driver. She now drives a Yaris.

She even had the HOV stickers so she could be solo in the carpool lane.

Get the Prius, you'll like it much better. The Yaris EPA numbers are way off from what's stated and totally underpowered. The interior on the Prius is much better than the Yaris, in terms of function and quality.
