With all these fluid change threads going on now, is there a write up on how to change the differential?? I tried to do a search but found none. Who's done it here? and if so, any hints on how to?

I did mine last summer. Remove the drain plug on the differential and let the old fluid drain. Replace the plug. The filler cap is on the top of the differential. I had to purchase a hand pump (like a giant syringe) to replace the fluid. I put a piece of plastic hose on it so that it could reach up and over the differential and stuck it in the fill hole. It was kind of a pain but certainly not hard to do. I used Mobil 1 synthetic.

On that note, how often should the diff. fluid be changed? Every 30K or 60k?

Note - you should loosen the fill plug before draining the fluid. Sometimes a fill plug will be "frozen" in place and if you have drained your fluid and can't get the fill plug out, you are screwed.

ha ha... any pun intended? That is a good point, to make sure all your refill ports are accessible, because once you drain, you can't reverse it.

Any images of where these plugs are? and what type of Mobile 1? Which weight ie 90w15, etc and how many quarts are we talking about

I'm more electronics kind of guy, not real mechanical but if I do exchange the oil, I'll do the normal write up even though its outright simple but pictures always help, and we're here to help each other out

T55 Mobil 75 90. Use a pump makes a huge difference. I have 127000 miles on my car I dont think it was changed before. The oil was nasty and the plug had black stuff on it.

I followed this tutorial when changing out the diff fluid. As mentioned above make sure the filler plug can be loosened before draining, get new crush washers, the use of that pump makes it doable, and fill to just overflow on a 'level' surface.

I used Amsoil Long Life Synthetic gear fluid. Should last for 100k miles.

I'm ready to do this service as well... my manual states fill with 1.43 quarts to 5MM below lower opening on level surface... not sure if it's any big deal that it is to lower lip/spilling out as that would be 5MM overfilled (not sure what volume that equates to)...

I may just fill to the lip then jack up opposite side of car so a little more dribbles out and call that good (or at least **** retentive).

Quart of 75W-90 Synthetic Mobile1 is $9ea at Autozone, so that is what I'm using and I plan to change it every 30k (dealer recommends every 60k based on their service offerings).
