More specifically, did anybody with an 04-06 LS430 change the transmission fluid and rear differential fluid at 60K?

The dealer in my area recommends

Every 5K service.
Change oil & filter. (oil change only. $59.00)
Rotate tires
Do a bunch of inspecting.

$179.95

15K / 45k/ 75K/ service
All of the above plus.
Balance wheels.
Replace air filter.
Replace Differental oil.
More Inspections.

$399.95

30k/ 60k Service

All of the above plus.
Flush brake fluid.
New coolant.
Replace wiper inserts.
Drop A/T Pan & clean filter( I don't think they do this on the 04 thru 07 LS430)

$599.95

90K service.
All of the above plus
Replace timing & Dr belts
Replace Iridium spark plugs(VVTi engings only)

$1589.95

So, no recommendation to change the transmission fluid. I've heard that it doesn't need changing, but is that really true?

Default Just had my 60K done!

Just had my 2004 LS430 in for 60,000 mile service. Fee $575 for:

Oil and Filter change
Transmission Fluid changed
Diff. Fluid changed
Brake fluid changed
Cabin and engine air filters changed
Tires Rotated
New Wiper blades
Engine Coolant

Lubricate:
Axle Shaft Bushings
Drive shaft
Repack front wheel bearings

Loaner car (2008 ES 350 with 400 miles on it!)
Car wash, dried and wheels dressed. I think this is a nice touch. Instead of just running a car through a wash.

My car is black on black, so any extra water or not drying is a bad thing and my car looked GREAT!

In addition while I was there I had picked up a nail in the edge/sidewall and had been on the spare for about 2 days, so I had a new tire put on and balanced etc. for $186 + $10 for mounting (Michelin Primacy MSV4 - GREAT TIRES!).

Of course the dealer was wonderful. I think this was a good price. Let me know your thoughts.

PS - When I went to drop off my car they had my loaner cleaned, tires dressed and running with the heat on ready to go!

PSS - The ES 350 Loaner was nice but my 2004 LS430 is Fantastic!!!

I think that the unit in the 2004-2006 is sealed, believe it or not. This might not be true, if not it'd be great if someone on here could definitively say one way or the other.

My dealer did not change the transmission fluid on the 30k service.

FYI: Online standard quote from Nalley Lexus Smyrna, GA.
I think one can do most of the service DIY route. Some questions. Where are the drive shaft flange bolts? Are there DIY instructions for replacing brake fluid?
I am not sure about inspection items though. I don't know how to do any of those.

60,000 Mile Factory Recommended Service [2004 LS430]

Service includes the following:

Replace engine oil and oil filter
Reset oil replacement reminder light (if equipped)
Measure brake pad thickness and rotor runout

Re-torque drive shaft flange bolts
Rotate tires
Road-test vehicle

Inspect the following:
Ball joints and dust covers
Body
Brake lines and hoses
Differential oil
Drive belts
Drive shaft boots
Engine coolant
Engine valve clearance
Exhaust pipes and mountings
Fuel lines and connections, fuel tank band and fuel tank vapor vent system hoses
Fuel tank cap gasket
Rack and pinion assembly
Steering linkage and boots
Transmission fluid

Additional Maintenance Required If You Drive Primarily Under the Following Conditions

Required only if vehicle is operated primarily while towing

Drive shaft flange bolts are for the GS430, *not* the LS430 according to my instruction manual.

Also, I've brought this up before in a separate thread... but the confusion regarding trans fluid changes at 60k relates to the fact that early 2004 cars shipped with a manual that indicated transmission fluid change at 60k miles as part of NORMAL vehicle service.

Later in 2004 or 2005 a TSB was issued that replaced the 60k mile CHANGE recommendation with an INSPECT recommendation at 100k miles. This is one of the many reasons why there has been so much controversy regarding fluid changes of the transmission recently.

Most dealers will not replace the fluid (flush or exchange) prior to 100k unless you specifically ask for this to be done. To make matters worse, dealers will stamp the old manual in the "60k Service" section with their dealer stamp EVEN though they didn't do the transmission flush. So you could have an early 2004 manual with a stamp at 60k miles and think your tranny fluid was changed, only to find out they never actually did it (my case).

Not transmission fluid again... My iPad is starting to smell like ATF due to all the discussions about it.

^ lol

The funny thing is, it says to inspect Diff fluid, you cannot inspect it unless your drain it and they just charge you for it with out looking at it. Same with the 6 speed Auto, you cannot inspect the fluid.

Mine is one of those 2004 models that were part of the transmission recall.

Transmission was replaced at 7500 miles. I don't know if that matters as for the decision to flush. I was not planning to but then would like to hear from people in same boat.

My car was also a part of the recall when owned by a previous owner. I plan on following Lexus service plan unless my dealer gives me a reason to change. I have the Lexus Platinum Warranty and will last another 1 1/2 years and I should have approximately 90,000 miles at that time.

Axle shaft bushing and drive shaft lubrication? Why would you repack bearings at 60 k But yes 575 sounds pretty darn good for all of that, sign me up. Power steering change just get a turkey baster!
