Exclamation Check VSC

Just had my 2001 LS430 60K service by non-Lexus mechanic (out of warranty and I'm not rich). CEL & "VSC off" lights are now on, says check VSC. Cannot turn off "VSC off" light. Mechanic tried to clear code with his computer, same lights. Tried unplugging battery, same lights. Checked gas cap, seems tight. We DID change the air filter--could that have this effect? Should I try to unplug the EFI fuse? Please help--I don't think I can afford to take it to the Lexus dealer. BTW, car runs fine, but mechanic says that as long as the "VSC off" light is on, I do not have VSC or even ABS. Is this true?

If you disconnected the battery then you have to allow VSC to initialize the yaw rate sensors and other various items. This can be quite costly.
HOLD ON... just kidding
To reset VSC light just simply apply parking brake, start engine, leave transmission in park and let it idle for approximately 15-20 seconds.
This will clear the VSC light.
Are you sure the Check Engine Light is on? If so, there is no way to help with that without diagnostic codes.

Good luck

Well, the VSC light did NOT reset with the parking brake trick. Any other ideas? BTW, my Check Engine light is NOT on, just the red warning triangle and the "VSC off" light.
Is my ABS still working when the "VSC off" is lit?

Check your brake fluid level.

the timing of the light seems to hint at maybe ur mechanic unplugged something like a sensor and didnt replace it. check to make sure everything he could have possibly unplugged while working on your car has been reattached.

Your ABS still works.
You need to take a jump wire and connect TC - CG in the DLC3 connector.
This connector is located under dash on driver side slightly to left of steering column. This will cause VSC light to blink and display diagnostic trouble code.
Post results.

Just so I don't screw it up:
1) Can this "jump wire" be any insulated copper wire?
2) Do I insert the wire while the engine is Off? or
3) Do I insert it while the engine is running and the "Check VSC" is displayed?
Thanks for your help.

Any insulated wire will work.
Key off
Jump TC - CG
Turn key on
Count VSC light. It will give you a 2 digit code. It will flash, pause a second and then flash again. Example: code 31 = flash-flash-flash-----flash.
Kinda crude I know....
Good luck and post results

5336 ?
That is not a valid code. Was this the ABS , VSC or which light flashing?
Install wire into pins and then turn ignition switch on
Only concentrate on one light at a time whether it is ABS or VSC

OK, now I understand. The 5336 code was given to me by the mechanic who got it from his computer as a "dealer-specific" code that he could not interpret. I'll try to jump-wire the specified slots today.

OK, I was finally able to jump wire the computer connector in the slots specified. When I turned on the ignition key (not the engine), all the idiot lights blinked except the "VSC off" light, and where it has been saying "Check VSC" it now says "VSC 39". So I guess the code you were trying to find is 39. What does that mean, and what should I do now? By the way, thanks for all your help and for being so patient with someone who does not know what he is doing.

Code 39 is for left rear speed sensor
