'03 LS430 trunk hard to lift
Have a certified 2003 LS 430 purchased this spring.(Currently 38000 miles) When I bought the car I told the salesman I thought the trunk was hard to lift. His explaination was I was coming from a caddy where the trunk lifted automatically and I was just not used to it. I recenlty drove an '03 Toyota and noticed that trunk opened with ease. So I took my car in to the dealer but he insists there is nothing wrong with the trunk.
Has anyone had a similar experiance and what are my options
Thanks

With my 06 LS, it's not hard to lift, but I don't know if it's because I have new shocks for the trunk or if it's because it's the slightly newer body. You should have then check the shocks on your trunk.

I have to use both hands to open the trunk! LS430 is a joke.

my 01 LS430UL trunk is also like a weight lift exercise. My wife can hardly lift it. I sometimes get it hit back on me when I don't lift it all the way up. It's like that from day one we got the car. My wife said that it's heavier so it's safer (built like a tank?)

Agreed, Inguyenh, I cant just lift it standing sideways, I have to face the trunk and use both hands.
Is everyones trunk heavy and hard to lift?
If so, then there really is nothing wrong, and it is working as designed.
Has anyone had this fixed?
I can't believe a luxury car with the reputation of the Lexus could have such a design flaw!

I agree with all of your statements, but the trunk does take a bit to lift. The shocks for the trunk does not inhibit it from opening, the help keep it open. My trunk is very hard to open, but when open it stays open and of course closes smoothly.
Besides, how often are you going in the trunk?

Someone mentioned before that it's designed that way (hard to open, easy to close). If it is indeed then it's really stupid. I have my head hit at least three times because the lid decided to close on its own! LOL
Anyway, I am in the process of selling the car (two buyers have backed out) to get a CL55. Lexus is a very reliable car but it has no soul, sucks with gas mileage (worst in all the V8 I own including the S420 and SL500).

If your trunk is hard to lift, the struts are bad. Period. Don't care if the car is less than a year old, even one defective strut can make it seem like weight lifting.
The bad news is the cost of the struts, as I recall they're over $125 each...
