please help rain-sensing wiper on 01 LS 430
Greeting all,
Got my car 3 months ago and it is still under the manufactory warranty.
Rain wiper does not work in the automatic sensor mode. It works when I push the sensor hard against the glass. Dealer told me that it was the tape problem. After they replace the tape it still does not work. Today, dealer tells me that my windshield is not the original Lexus glass. I need to replace the windshield in order to get it fix.
Does anyone have any idea about this?

Ouch! If the car is CPO, i would guess that they should repair the problem of the "inoperable rain sensing wiper" no matter what the root cause of the problem is. Unless of course, you replaced the glass.

Well I have no advice, but my 2002 LS430 is having the exact same problem.
I need to take it to the dealer to have it checked out.
I do know that my window shield has been replaced with an after market glass.
I will see if I can get an appointment next week and keep you posted.

Well, I made it to the Lexus dealer today to have them look at the rain sensor.
I have an appointment 2/21/05 hope to hear somthing positive however he did a test with a spray bottle and pushing on the sensor it will work. He also said their have been problems with after market glass.
QUESTION:
1) Are we the only two Lexus owners who have had to replace their windsheild??
2) Who would replace a stone chipped windsheild with " Lexus glass" ??

Hello,
To all who have been following this problem.
I picked up my LS after service today and GOOD!!! news they replaced the rain sensor and every thing is working fine.
Once I got home I went to the garage to test it out myself, I turned on the auto intermitting wipers and sprayed the windshild with window cleaner the wipers work!!!!!!
Thanks
Mike

Well, seems that these 90 degree weather we have been having melted the so called glue they used to hold the rain sensor. Now i see why the auto thing acts funny. Need to figure out a way to glue it so it can sense the rain.

The OEM Lexus windshield glass is important not only because of this, but also because it is rain-repellent. No way I would ever allow aftermarket windshield glass on this car.

Sensor acting funny on Hot days
I've noticed that my rain sensing wipers come on when after my car sits in the hot sun all day. When the outside temp reaches 90 or higher and the car temp is over 100, the wipers will come on and sweep the window. After 2 sweeps I usually turn the wipers to OFF to aviod damaging the blades when there is no rain anywhere in sight. Don't know what this malfunctions, but it does.
I'm outside my warranty, so I'll just have to live with it...

DDLexus, i have had the same exact problem. The dealer took twice to see the problem (under warranty) and then decided to change the rain sensor. He said that there is an update for the old 2001 rain sensors. Maybe you can go ask the dealer and say a fellow clublexus member said it is a problem with 50% of the 2001's

Rain Sensor on HOt Days
I have the same problem with my 01 LS430 with the rain sensor operating the wipers on hot days. I looked in the owners manual and it states that if the windshield gets hot that the rain sensor may malfunction and it will default to the intermittent mode. I am thinking this is normal because it states it in the manual. I hope their is an update to correct this problem.

It also happened on my '02. If you look really close you will see the glue that they used to glue that sensor to the windshield is fluid like. I believe it thinks this is liquid and because of the heat melted it a bit. I am thinking about using 3m double sided tape to tape around the edges of the case to see if that will help. I really don't think there is anything wrong with the sensor, it is just that damn glue they used.
