Default Oooops - Rear radio/AC controls not working on Ultra

I've had my 2001 Ultra a few weeks and decided to finally check out the backseat... I discovered the radio/AC controls in the arm rest doesn't work and shows a blank screen...The massage and warmers, recliners, shade, etc., all work fine but no radio or temp control from the rear. I was wondering if the previous owner had had it disabled because they used a car seat in the back and perhaps Junior was playing with it too much? Anybody have an experience like this? I checked a few of the fuses referenced in the manual (41-43) and they look okay - tried to open up the arm rest to see if it was just a loose cable but it was a little tricky and I chickened out.

This is the least important feature of the car to me as I'll have a baby seat in the middle of the seat and won't be able to access any of that stuff 95% of the time - but I'd like to at least play with it once in a while! Any ideas out there? - I've got no warranty so any ideas are appreciated.

thx,
dave

I used to own a 2001 LS-430 Ultra. The person who sold it to me had a family and told me that he had gotten the rear audio controls disabled to prevent his kids from changing the audio, but that he re-enabled it when I wanted to sell the car. So, it is possible to disable and enable the rear controls.

Since I had no need to disable those controls, I never found out from him how to disable/enable those controls. Quite possibly its a dealer programming feature, becuase I didn't recall reading anything about it in the manual either.

Maybe the controls are in the lock mode?? There is a button that says 'mode' push and hold this button for about 5 seconds and see if that changes anything.

Default Haven't tried....

... got too busy to fool with it - plus there's a baby seat in the way.
I'll post with results when I take it in to the dealer.

thx,
dave

Default Resolution!!!!!

Got this problem fixed.

It seems someone dumped a Coke in it.....

The Lexus dealer said they could replace the whole armrest for an unknown huge sum OR I could take it to All Communications (770) 936-3445 and let Bruce take a look at it. They took it apart, cleaned and re-sodered a few bits and now it works - And as a bonus, I now have the rear speakers working (which I never knew were out till last week) so evertything sounds real nice. I highly recommend these guys for anyone in Atlanta that needs work done on OEM stuff - and can't/won't afford the dealer.

Bruce's e-mail is autoradiorepair@hotmail.com

Thanks for everyone's help with this and happy motoring.

Thats good news. I'm pleased to hear it was a problem created by the owner and not the car. I'm sure you're glad it was fixed.
