Default '01 Lexus Integrated Phone - NO LONGER SUPPORTED?

Okay,

I just had a bit of a shocker that I hope someone can help me with... I had temporarily disabled my $3k integrated Lexus phone as I was primarily driving our third car and didn't want to pay for a cell we didn't use. When I attempted to reactivate the phone, however, I was promptly told by Exec. Customer Service at Sprint and a network engineer that the LexusPhone is no longer supported - the software is outdated and cannot be upgraded. Their network won't support the old software any longer and there is NO way to activate.

While I find it hard to believe that my '01 (basically 2 years old) $3k Lexus cell phone, one of the primary reasons that I bought the LS in the first place (the combination nav and cellphone integration, how clean and neat it functioned, etc.) will no longer work.

Anyone heard anything about this? I cannot imagine Sprint making this up (along with an engineer from their network) as it's really walking away from a new contract and money....

Sprint *announced* in 2001 that they were going to migrate to their 3G (third Generation) technology (which probably occurred in '02 or '03). I used to be a customer of ATT Wireless and when they migrated to new technology, my phone was incompatible and wouldn't be usable after the migration. It is possible that this may have happened to Sprint customers when they moved to new technology.

FYI, the phone available when I bought my '03 last month was with ATT Wireless. (Obviously Lexus doesn't use Sprint anymore)

Ive had the lexus handsfree free integrated phone on my '01 ultraluxury LS430 since Dec of 2000, and the phone never stopped working. I just cancelled my service with SprintPCS yesterday, as I am picking up an 04 LS430 tomorrow....good luck!!!

Default It's the reactivation that'll kill ya!

It may not stop working altogether, but if you try to reactivate, change numbers, etc., that's when it hits ya...

And part of the reason Lexus uses ATT wireless is probably because LexusLink (a.k.a. OnStar) uses the ATT wireless infrastructure.

Since OnStar/Lexus Link works off Analog service, i would assume it uses Verizon's analog network.
