Need Info on Celsior/Ls400
I don't know if this is the right place as it's my first time using a website like this. I'm looking to buy a 1991 Toyota celsior. Did all celsiors come with air suspension, where as LS400 did not? Could someone please educate me on that. Thanks. If the Celsior i'm looking to buy does have air ride, what are issues to look out for? Can I modify the settings to be able to slam it when parked and lift it up while driving? If i could also get somethings to lookout for, i:e common problems with 1991 models it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

This just came up a few weeks ago funny enough. This thread answers some questions:
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls-...-facelift.html
tl;dr no, air ride is optional and was available for both celsiors and 400's.
It's a miracle if the air ride still works from 91', and if the parts are even available, it's pretty expensive. Most people convert to normal shocks when the air system gives up.

Do a Google search on 1991 Lexus LS400 or Toyota Celsior and there will be links to ClubLexus posts. Or you can take your time and educate yourself about the cars just reading posts here for literally weeks, again educating yourself about the cars by reading similar questions to the ones you are asking. There are over 900+ pages of posts here on the forum. Do a little research.

Look, I get it. Modern internet search is broken as hell. You get **** results from SEO optimized results. You just want to ask and receive the knowledge like we do with chat GPT & other AI tools. But we can't do that, so you need to search correctly. Here's how you do that.
The format you want to use is the following: "ls400 *the issue I'm looking for* forum"
So for example; I'd shove the following into Google:
And that will remove all the spammy stuff and only give you forum results from clublexus, lextreme and all the other repositories of answers to a solid 80% of all questions ever asked. It's way better than the built-in search on this website, which I haven't used in years because it isn't even remotely as powerful.
For non-car stuff you can also append reddit instead of forum to get far higher quality results to your random question than you'd otherwise get.
I'm going to just start linking this post to all questions which can be answered by easy searches.

It's not so much that it's repetitive questions, it's more that there are over 20 years of posts already here with I would say thousands of respondents with more knowledge than the few that are reading your post today could match, just from sheer force of numbers. You will find many viewpoints on various subjects here but you do have to spend some time reading and then try to sift through that to find what might be useful for your situation. Air suspension has been covered in many posts, both problems and how to swap over to standard or even lowered suspension. You asked about slamming the car and that can be done, I've read several posts about that here. I just looked and there are 990 pages of posts. That's quite a massive database of data to sort through. Pretty much whatever you might want to know about 1st and 2nd generation clesior/ls400 is already here if you just take the time to search it out. And as 400fanboy noted, the FAQ is a valuable resource as are the STICKY posts. Have a good time reading stuff. It is a fascinating trip.

what you'll get from reading: the old air suspension is a common failure point and not good especially at this age. i recommending finding a car w/o it, or you can just remove it completely in favor of regular strut/spring or coilovers for going very low.
400fanboy had a great post, take heed !
