Anything stiffer than that and ride quality will likely suffer.

I bought Springs for $150, Shocks for $380, all the oem mounts, insulators and bumpers for about $300.
It ended up costing well over the price of the entry level megan coilovers.

Spend about 600 on some megans then set them at the softest setting so your ride is still comfortable.
And those should easily give you a 2"+ drop
I'm glad I read this thread because I am having the same debate with myself about how to lower my LS. I think I am sold on coilovers. Same or slightly less cost than shocks/springs, adjustable ride and a lower drop? What's not to like. Thanks.

Had this same conversation recently with a shop I was pricing Megans with. They said the "stability control" light will come on when you remove the air suspension setup. That's just one opinion though...so, not 100% sure.

Not true, at least on the 98, replacing air struts with springs did not result in the stability control light coming on. That system relies on speed sensors in the hubs, not related to struts. I told the mechanic he needs to pull the fuse for the air pump. So far no warning lights.

Good tip. Thanks. So, i guess there is no need to actually remove the pump since removing the fuse will prevent it from cycling?

Arrow Lowering Spring for 98 LS 400

What are the best lowering springs for 1998 LS 400?

Sounds like H&R? I'm leaning towards Tanabe , suggestions?

How much would goodyear cost for labor to instal them?

Thanks

And can i get the springs without any new shocks?

Go with tanabe. They are easy to find and I am very pleased with mine.

goodyear will probly quote you like $750 because the book says you need to drop the rear axle.
Do it yourself for $100 in tool rentals (that gets refunded) and 6 hours time.

if you get springs without shocks, your shocks lifespan will be shortened.

or you could just go the smart route and spend 600 on a set of megans.
thats what I would do if I ever had to do work on my shocks again,

We have some past discussions:

FAQ:

The suspension springs:

Install $200-$250.
You'll want new shocks like the Bilstein but might as well just buy the Megans.

megans: 600-1000
The only difference is the number of settings for ride hight and stiffness.

I'm not going to mess with setting and if I can order TANABE DF210 Lowering Spring off az.com for $263.52 than I rather do that and pay some mechanic 100$ to put them on. Surely Goodyear won't charge more that 100$, my family is there always with out car problems and they know us by name.

Background: I just spent around $400 for a new starter, it died.
Also had $3,000 paint and dents repaired by State Farm
Just spent 400$ on the JL W3s

(trying to get paint to 1 tone instead of 2) (front and back bumper are painted the 1 tone and one said panel after repair is 1 tone, only 3 more panels than whole care is imperial jade 1 tone)

moral of story: not looking to spend a lot on suspension - 2 inch drop for 300$ sounds good to me

Good plan. I doubt it will work out like that though.
Goodyear will not charge you 100. Firestone quoted me 750 because the ASE book says you need to drop the rear axle. Find a shop that wont do that and they will still charge you 4 to 5 hours labor minimum. Which will be 400-500 at goodyear.

Plus if your shocks have alot of miles drop springs will kill them alot faster...

Get a quote from goodyear and get back with us

just LoL.

your (likely original) factory shocks aren't going to last very long at all if you put the tanabe's on your car, so you'll be paying for labor twice since you'll need to swap those out soon too. Coilovers come with new dampers, and allow far more flexibility with ride height and comfort.

no way you're going to get a big-name chain to swap your stock shock and springs out for $100, even if they do "know your family" unless they feel like losing money.

You REALlY need to search, and listen to the advice you're being given.

I went back and forth myself trying to decide on whether or not to get the Japanese air ride controller and in the end went with the coil-overs for the above stated reasons. I saved all 4 OEM air struts and just sold them via CL to a guy who has a controller and wanted spare struts for when the inevitable happens. He's got the spares - and I made $400. Win!

Attached photo is his car in front of mine. Pretty much stock, except he's got 18" rims from an '04 LS...I think.
