Default Is it a Air Strut or compressor problem?

How do I go about figuring out if the Air Strut is bad or if the compressor or hoses are the problem?

90 LS 400, driver front and both rear seem fine. Passenger front tire is almost rubbing the wheel well.
Dealership wants $1,600 and the one strut will work again. Not about to happen.

Where should I start?
Electronic Module on top of strut- electrical connectors: are they always hot?
Where is compressor? Does it fed both front struts ( if yes, then compressor should be good or Driver side would sag?)
Bag leaks (wouldn't soap bubble test display leak source?)
Lines from compressor to strut- are they metal or rubber hoses?

Strut never seems to try to rise at all.

Any comments are appreciated and welcomed, Tags have expired on car and Condo police have notified me car must be moved within 48 hours.

Only 1 compressor so it sounds like the strut.

You should be able to hear where the air is leaking. Raise the suspension up and then shut off the motor in a quiet garage and listen carefully. It might take a friend with good hearing but the air has to be leaking somewhere and it will make a noise.

Mine has not yet leaked but I checked out this site carefully for air suspension problems before buying the car. Everyone that tracked down the leak reported that a strut was leaking at the top of the tower. Of course, most of them simply had the struts replaced for big$$$

There were a couple postings that said you can remove the tower cover, reseal the strut top with a tire patch & rubber cement, and replace the plastic cover. Sounds like a 50 cent repair well worth trying if the leak is at the tower.
