Yup the LS models are bullet proof on the engine/tranny. It is like many vehicles.. they ALL have their common design flaws that show up years down the road that are common.

For example a certain year range of the ES's had a common Engine Sludging problem, so much so that lexus paid for alot of repairs/and or new engines.

The LS's have common PS leaks, seatbelt tensioners being loose, instrument clusters going out, Climate control LCD's blackened etc.. But the sum result of the LS's problems are minor accessories that are relatively inexpensive to fix. Other vehicles don't get that lucky. They might have perfect Instrument clusters and so on.. but some portion of the engine or tranny has a flaw that commonly occurs in all models by X miles..

As for the miles thing and buy back.

Some guy reached a Million miles on his K&N air filter in his truck and contacted K&N for their million mile guarantee for a free replacement filter. They thought it was a joke but upon further investigation found out the guy was legit. They not only replaced it, but made a commercial out of him, and bought him a new truck. (Nice of them, but I'm sure the advertisement paid many times that in dividends).

Personally my LS has 228-229k on it, and it is running strong. I expect a good 100k more without any significant problems.

Yeah, they probably want to study it to see where they can cut corners so that they don't "waste" money on parts that last that long!

That is so awesome. Makes me feel like my '92 LS with 241k is just barely broken-in. I bought mine with 224k on it, and at first I was very concerned about the "high" miles it had, but once I drove it and felt how smooth it was I knew it would be a solid car for a long time. I haven't had one serious issue with the car since I got it. I put about $200 into a tune-up, and other than that I just change the oil every 3,000 miles and keep putting gas in it. It definitely likes gas. I think pretty soon I'm gonna rebuild some of the items in the front-end like the lower control arm bushings and maybe do a brake job soon, but other than that I bet I could drive this beast forever!

I talked to Lloyd today -- the guy that this thread is all about. Really nice guy. Said that a dealership in Salt Lake City has the car now and they've used it in a number of promotions. Meanwhile, he's moved on to a newer Lexus and has slowed down the mileage accumulation. Lloyd lives about an hour from my hometown; I'll stop by and visit next time I cruise through there.

I'm at "only" 313k on my Acura.

Default 100K milestones

What service do you all do at every 100K after the first 100K?

The 90K is the the big one because of the timing belt. One could hang and do it at the 100K mark in most instances. Beyond that, the usual stuff like fluid changes.

One of my buddy's has a '90 and he's taken good care of it. Last I recall it was just a bit beyond 220K, he's still enjoying it. He's gone through many of the usual fixes...A/C, a rack-pinion unit but nothing else major.

Not to take away from the LS but check out Irv Gordon's Volvo 1965 P1800 with 2.6 million miles on it.
