...that for the first time, I got to sit inside an LS400.. I've been in the 430's - just not an 'ole 400... I was shocked at how comfortable and accommodating it was - it was a 1990.. There's no other word for the interior of that car than "stunning"...

Interiors are 1 area where Lexus is light years ahead of the competition. The interiors from the early nineties are as good or better than some luxury carmakers have now.

You need to check out 1988 BMW 750il. It is a direct equivalent of 2001 LS430. There are 3 memory seat buttons, rear seats are reclining, etc. Car uses drive-by-wire throttle body which are available only after 1998 on Lexus.

Lexus have being copying designs from BMW and Mercedes. Lexus is superior car to BMW, but they haven't used original design ideas. What about headlights on GS430? What car has the same headlights?

I know what you mean about interior - My Celsior is a "C" type with the F option package for the rear compartment seats - Heat, recline, power headrests, vibrate, individual rear ac / climate control, stereo controls and nice comfy Wool seats ( much nicer than leather IMO )

When I first sat in it I was very taken with the comfort level.... My friend owns a a 2 year old Merc S500 and he likes the feel of the rear seating better in my Celsior... but then he is also a large foreigner...

Now if I could just find a way to drive from the rear seat

It came with three different interiors...

Cloth - Leather - Wool....

Wool was optional on all types but standard on the "C" type "F" package..... I have an original sales book in Japanese... looks like a high quality coffee table magazine..... beautiful pictures....

Not sure you can make it out in the rear seat shot above but the F package has rear AC outlets above the rear door headers... I will take a closer picture and post another time...

Here is one other of the rear seat set-up....
