Default Question regarding performance of 95/98

If the '98 LS does 0-60 in 6.4 and the quarter mile in 14.9 - how does the '95 compare with 30 less horsepower and foot pounds of torque? I'm wondering how much of a difference in power there is...

Thanks in advance...

Okay. I tried searching a few minutes ago but came up empty. I tried again and found my answer.

I think the 5spd tranny does more for the 98 then the extra 30 HP. The 95 is no slouch, it has real long gears (2nd gear takes you to like 85). I can squak my tires off the line 75% of the time, and merging onto the fwy is quite impressive. The 95 has real nice power from 3000-5500, I'd ask for a bit more top end (VVTi in the 98 probably helps a lot).

I've seen 0-60 times for 95-97's range from 7.0-7.4 and 1/4 mile times range from 15.0-15.6. My dad has a 98 GS300 and it has a 5spd automatic, similar to the 98+ LS400's, and it seems a lot smarter, a lot quicker, and a lot sportier then my 95's.

My friend has a 93 LS, and the 95 is significantly quicker feeling. His is an absolute slouch off the line, but builds to have decent top end.

LS400 stats from February 95:
0-60 7.8, 0-100 18.9, 0-120 28.4, 1/4M 15.8 but a top speed mph 156 (drag limited).

That seems high, but so does the 15.0 of the 98 in that article posted in another thread. But a .8 second difference between the two sounds about right.
