PCV valve is the Positive Crankcase Ventilation valve.

I don't know where it is at on the 98+ 1UZFEs, but on the 97 and down models, it is located on the drivers side valve cover. It a cheap little metal valve with a 3/8 inch or so rubber hose connected to it, and it should be on one of the valve covers.

Another item to possibly consider is the ignition coils, but they are rather expensive to do on the 98 and up models because there is 8 of them as opposed to 2. I don't honestly know if i would bother with them unless some of them started failing.

Use nonethanol fuel.

/end.

I ran 476 miles from Redmond Oregon to Redding CA and around downtown there and to my hotel and stuff and back to Klamath Falls Oregon before needing to fuel up again. 2 spare tires on board, a few boxes (was still moving some things), and I broke 100 both ways.

My car is a 97 with 184k miles on it and I am getting the BEST gas mileage ever. I get at least 25+ mpg on the highway cruising at 60-65. I've done few things to my car I will note and my gas actually burn slow now, I am VERY pleased with mpg considering the age and mileage of my car. Okay here's what I've done to my car:
1. I use NGK spark plug wires and ngk double platium spark plugs.
2. Use a synthetic oil, I am currently running 5w-30 Castrol w/ titanium and man this oil have my engine sounding very quiet, that's some good oil. Pennzoil and Mobil 1 are good too.
3.I regularly change my transmission fluid, I only use Toyota t4.
4. I use mobil1 75w-90 in the differential.
5. I have a fairly new denso air filter. I don't like the k&n filters, the oil trigger engine lights.
6. ONLY on 95s and up, I clean my maf sensor with CRC maf cleaner.
7. Every now and then I use Gumout fuel system cleaner, good stuff in my opinion. Just pour it in gas tank and fill up.
8. THIS IS KEY, use fuel efficient tires. I am currently riding on Yokohama yk580 and these are VERY smooth (smooth as butter) and very quiet, I would gladly purchase these tires again. Another excellent set of fuel efficient tires are the Pirelli P7s.
9. Last, this is probably the most important and most overlooked, proper adjustment of the transmission cable via the two adjustment nuts. The manual states the metal bulge on the cable should be 0-1 mm from the stopper. I adjusted this cable for a couple of weeks and finally found the sweet spot. The transmission NO longer jerks when going from park to drive and the shift are soft and smooth. I can post a pic of it, and I used a penny and dime to measure, both are about 1mm thick. I notice with firmer shifts the gas burned faster so I went 1 or 2 half turns to loosen the cable and the gas mileage improved to my liking. So I went with the softer shifts due to the better gas mileage.
10. I forgot, ever since I owned my car with 90k miles on it, I only use premium gas.

Swap in a turbo-diesel engine. It's gonna cost a lot, but that's not important...just look at all the MPGs you'll be getting.
