The point at which the clamp hold to has slits cut into it. These slits allow the pipe to expand and come off. The clamp itself is designed to only tighten so far. This prevents the pipes from being crimped together. Once the rubber O rings are off and the clamp is loose and the muffler should be pushed side to side and up-and-down focusing the force at the clamp area. This will start to spread the pipe. From there try to turn the muffler. By doing the above the intersection will loosen and the muffler will slide off.

Keep at it. They will come off. Once off they can be reinstalled very easy. I have had mine off and on literally 5 times between testing and taking the car in to the dealer. The first time took a little effort but now they are very easy. Yours have been tightened together for over 6 years. Trust me, as far as exhaust work goes this is a cake walk. Unless your pipes are heavily corroded this is something YOU can do. Seeing as Lexus used stainless pipes (although low grade) the chance of heavy corrosion is very small. Go for it, you will love the sound.

If you want to hear my car with the muffler delete mod you better do it fairly soon... I am getting very close to upgrading the entire cat back.
Flanges, o2 mounts, Y pipe, center resontator, V pipe (divide pipe), bypass check valve, quiet side and high flow side.

is your exhaust mod good for all LS generations> more specifically the 91-94 year models?

All LS400s have extremely restrictive exhaust systems. As far as your first generation car my upgrades would be a benefit. How much extra power is hard to say but somewhere between 10-20hp is a good guess. The dual path quiet/loud design is on hold for the moment and I will just go with identical dual pipes at first. My feeling is it will be too loud for my taste and I will need to quiet it down for the proper Lexus experience. Although for a little while it will be interesting having a Corvette sounding LS400!

Sorry, i didnt mean to ask if its Good as in does it work, . So here I will rephrase it. Is your exhaust mod applicable to all gen. LS400? Sorry again for the misunderstanding.

So what kind of muffler are you gonna be trying out this time to get the sound you want? I really want to upgrade the exhaust but dont want the sound to overwhelm the interior of the car and make the Lexus sound like a big block v8! heh but the idea of a Corvette sounding LS would be cool

I do not have the specs on the pre-98 engines catalyst outlet size. I had flanges cut for my 99 but they may be different in size. The 95-97 LS400 will probably be a direct fit but the 90-94 cars will most likely require a slightly different shape and probably flange size. If I can get my hands on an earlier cars exhaust pipes I could measure the flange and provide all the proper parts that could easily be installed by a muffler shop.

Muffler wise, the stock system is pretty well choked off so almost ANYTHING will be a flow improvement. I will use a large 3" ID center resonator followed by dynomax super turbo mufflers at the mid car location and straight pipes back from there. This will probably be too loud so another set of super turbos at the rear will be tried. If this is still too un-Lexus the dual path will go in with a valve blocking off one side and a stock muffler on the other. I will definitely keep the board posted.
