Default Possible future LS

As you can read here I wrecked my 96.

I want another 2nd gen as I loved my 96, but would prefer a 98-2000 to get the 5 speed, vtti and the HID.

I found a black on black 99 with 200k km (124k miles). Debating if it's worth spending time to make it better.

The good
Interior is in good shape
Extra set of tires on Lexus wheels
TB done at 126k km (100k miles)
Already imported in my province so no official inspection is needed.
Visual inspection didn't reveal any leak

The bad
  • Leveling headlight warning displayed multiple times while driving on a flat road
height sensors or wiring need to be look at
  • Headlight need to be cleaned/polishedl
    Can fix it myself
  • Car doesn't have the 1uz power my 96 had
    Replace coolant temp sensor

Problem is that I'm kind of in a rush...

Hate to buy used cars in a hurry as it's so much about the timing of looking to buy when someone is selling the right car. I'd pass on that one for sure. I'm sure there will be better cars, just not sure it's in your time frame. Wish you the best of luck in your search.

Well I need a ride ideally by next week.

I'm going to see a 99 GS400 tomorrow, apparently mint minus a little scuff on the bumper. 310k km, but timing belt and water pump have just been done and other stuff too. Black on Black too

I know the GS are not like the LS in term of ride comfort and build quality, but this will give me time to find the perfect one. Ideally I would keep GS as a beater and the LS as my sound competition car.

Well well, it look like 2 people can have a very different opinion of what "mint" mean... Still looking for a car.

Why are you looking at such high mileage shabby examples to begin with?

Since I purchased my 96 back in July, I'm monitoring the LS400 market in QC and ON, nothing worth a look came up. All we have here is high mileage, beat up cars or both.

There was one local last week on Kijiji, 45 minutes after the ad was posted I called the guy, but he told me he already sold it... Since then I've switched my RSS feed update from 1 hour to 5 minutes

I saw some in BC and AB from time to time, but Ill have to take a week vacation to bring it back and unless I have someone over there to look at it I'm not willing to take a chance.

Why not look south? There should be a ton of cream puffs in the SE states and would be a hell of a lot cheaper to get back to the Q than from out west. The west cars imho, are overpriced and poorly maintained from what I have seen.

If you are considering a vacation to get a car, go south!

yep, expand your search range and look for some outside of your local zone. i had to go 150 miles outside of my area to find mine. give a good excuse to road trip and get out of your normal area!

I've look at Autotrader.com and can only find some overpriced high mileage ones within 350 miles. Remember right now with the exchange rate you need to at least multiply by 1.25 the price, so that 7000$ is over 8750$ plus it will need to be certified.I'm looking on Craiglist but so far nothing came up.

Can you recommend me some sites?

Ahem... as a 2GS owner, I beg to differ with you!! My GS is flawless (except for some clear coat peeling on the roof). Build quality is top notch. However, as someone that is fairly tall, the LS is the best bet for you. Good luck man!

lol, thanks

Well i'm pretty sure I would love the 2GS If I could find one in good shape. The 2 I've tried felt like they would fall apart and the last one actually was.

Got a reply today from one guy saying that the tires on the factory wheels are garbage because he used them to drift last summer. Next one...

I've look at some 500$ cars today, the last one was pretty epic (99 Mazda 626 v6). What looked like a Pringle can was use in conjunction with duct tape to make the air conduit between the air box and throttle body. There was also an unfused power wire (look like cheap 4ga) going "somewhere" .

The only car today that felt on par with the LS was a Volvo S80 with the Yamaha V8, but that was over 10k lol. Anyways today was my last vacation day, so I'm back to work tomorrow so Ill wont have time to think and stress about finding a car.
