Plus, I'm pretty sure the people buying a $70k+ ultra luxury barge are of at all concerned with what the engine looks like... The fact that virtually every luxury and even typical car manufacturer is going the way of more and more plastic covering also says that you are a minority in the car buying market.
The covers take seconds to pop off on my dads 2013 LS460, not like it's an extra 1hr to remove them or something ridiculous.

For a long time, manufacturers were trying to hide wiring with creative routing and covers to make it look more presentable to the customer but induced boatloads of problems to the long term reliability of the wiring and subsequent systems. Mercedes was terrible for this. Covers allowed them to make stuff look neat and tidy without having to resort to less than perfect engineering solutions for the sake of aesthetics....
That also means less headaches for DIY'ers!

Nice I like the painted engine cover , they do look kinda boring with all that plastic covering up the engine. Im old school american muscle car owner I like to see and hear the V8 engines but I do understand why the manufacturer covers them. I've seen some cars at the New York auto show with wood floor covering with polished chrome accents looked pretty cool .
