Default Fuel Tank Capacity

I've had my '97 LS400 Coach for two years now and have never been able to put more than 18.7 gallons into what I see EVERYWHERE as a 22.5 gallon tank. Anyone have experience with this? I am unwilling to run it dry...

I'm sure others have had luck with adding more than that. I know I sure have. I'm not sure that filling up more is necessarily a good thing as running it as low as I have has I'm sure drawn a few dregs from the bottom. I since have replaced my fuel filter. Check one of my earlier posts to see the condition of it - no bueno.

Anyway, best of luck. Off hand I remember putting 20-21 gallons in before. I can not recommended going that long if you didn't "need" to if there was such a situation.

Matt

i have put 21 in before. the gas light in my 97 would always turn on with 5 gallons to go. i would see it and pull into a gas station immediately and always always put 17.5 in the tank. My 99 is not the same though. Gas light seems to come on later.
but to answer your question, yes its 22.5 with the exception of the 2000 which is 21.4 iirc

Running it dry is the only way to find out for sure.
My '91 is spec'ed at 22.5 gallons, but by running it dry, I found that it is really 21.3 gallons. The light comes on with about 3 gallons left. I of course ran it dry in a controlled test, carrying a full gas can in the trunk so I was not stranded.

Smart thinking. The pump is cooled by the fuel and running it all the way out removes the cooling for a short duration. It may not 'kill' the pump but its rough on it.

Default Thanks for the input...

I think I'll pass on draining it. At least I know there's a lot left when the light comes on...
