Question QUICK Q about an Idle Air Control Valve 91' ls400

I haven't been able to find this answer on here or anywhere else, so here I am asking:

If I am holding the main part of the IAC valve in my hand-

(the half with the harness connector and the shaft with the head on it and spring wrapped around it, not the half where all the hoses connect)

-Should I be able to move the shaft in and out? Both of the IAC'S I have, only move maybe 1/16" or less in and out and I know these things get "stuck" but I'm not sure if they are stuck or if I cant move them because they are electronically controlled or soemthing...

Just looking at the thing I feel like I should be able to push that head down like 1/4" to 1/2" at least, to compress the spring that is on there, but they just don't budge at all.

Are these bad iac's or can you not move the shaft manually on a functioning one as well?

If i am reading the question correctly, The reason you can't just push the valve in is because it works as a "screw drive", which means the motor rotates on what you could call a threaded shaft, and it basically "screws" it in and out to alter the idle speed.

It is a round shaft with a flat edge on it going through a matching hole, so it doesn't look like it would be capable of turning... Any ideas?
