The '01 - '03 are a different set tho'. They are just so much better in many areas (see: http://www.familycar.com/RoadTests/LexusLS430/Index.htm for more reviews on the difference b/w the pre-430 models.

Man this can get confusing... ...depending on what country the car was released in this stuff seems to be all mixed up. I'm in the US, so I want to nail down the correct info for this country.
OK, so see if you can fill the blanks in...
UCF10: 90-92
UCF11: 93-94
UCF20: 95-97
UCF21: 98-00
UCF22: ????!!
UCF30: 01-03
UCF31: 04-

The interior has more wood. You will notice on non NAV models, there is a wood strip above the radio and on NAV models, this strip is thinner. Oh, you can get NAV THe front hood of the new 98-00 models does not share a single part with the 95-97 models. You could also get a wood steering wheel.

Don't know where you got that info, but 3rd. generation LS400s are from the years 1998 - 2000. Here's an excerpt from the Lexus website link I attached on my previous post:

The nice thing about the LS series is that even when a new generation comes out, even though it may be completely changed inside and out, it is still easily recognizable as an LS. When Infinity changes the Q45, it isn't even close to the previous generation (but that is definitely a good thing
) New Benz generations are also completely different cars and look completely different than their previous generations, although Benz doesn't change their cars very often, like BMW and Jaguar.

agree, but....
I have to agree with tenpointed on the 3nd/3rd gen LS. The UCF coding does prove that the 95-00 models are indeed same gen (2nd, that is)....However, UCF20-to-21 changes ('98-'00) are more significant than UCF10-to-11 changes (in the '94-'97) models. My '99 I consider to be a 2+gen series

That quote was straight out of the Lexus website, and that's the reason I put it there.
It clearly says that the 98 model is the 3rd. gen. LS. It has nothing to do with common sense, since I'm going by what the mfg. is telling me on their official website.
