using a tablet in the centre console
sorry if a repost, i did search
so ive read somewhere that there are people using a tablet (say around 10") and removing the HVAC controller and the stereo. then mounting it where the HVAC controls and stereo sits.
it controls the HVAC and stereo. plus do extra stuff like show gauges etc..
who has done this and what programs and wiring systems are needed?
as my HVAC unit is dieing
cheers

^^ Interesting. I've debated removing my ashtray and slightly expanding the surround it sits in to make a custom setup for my Note 3 since I use it for navigation all the time. If I come across a spare wood trim piece from a junkyard I might try that out and see. Obviously not a full tablet mount, but the Note 3 is no small screen.

have measured it up and a 10" tablet will fit sweet
might look into some i/o modules that operate via blue tooth.. so cabling into the tablet wont be too bad..

In order to perform it, the most time consuming job would be to analyze the interface signals and to make equivalents. Before your HVAC fails you'd better to analyze those since Toyota does not open the detail.
Signal names are known and it would be not impossible for those who are skilled to replace the HVAC and the audio unit to a tablet.

thanks Yamae
will have to get onto it..
was thinking of running it so you touch the screen and radio/hvac interface.. then after you change what you need to have it revert to a couple of gauges which will run off the haltech elite i installing soon

As far as the audio goes, I'm just removing all of the OEM equipment, and replacing it with aftermarket equipment. Then I will use a USB to Optical cable to connect to a Digital Sound Processor, and then from there, to the amplifiers that will control the new speakers.

If you ever get this all up and running, I would love to have a full install rundown (necessary parts, etc).
It's nice to let someone else do all the legwork and trial & error..
