Default JZA80 TRD Front STB on UCF20

All,

So, finally I gave in and bought TRD STB for my '95 after reading about how the STB fits LS400. Well, guess what, it doesn't fit 3/4" too short. Angle, clearance (I had to take off the heat-trapping engine cover which I was more than happy to get rid of) and bolt pattern all match very well. It's just 3/4" too short. And, no, you cannot just lengthen the bolt holes, the STB pads that sit on shock towers need to move 3/4" too.

So, I'm going to cut this beautiful thing into two and reweld it with extension while it's on the car (well, actually just tag weld it while it's on the car) so there will be no more fitment problem. Comments ?

The first gen guys have discussed this one. I know y ou responded to my thread so you're already aware. The welding might do the job.

There's a reference to Steve @ Carson Toyota. Maybe he can get the part for the 95LS.

Lvangundy,

Thanks for the reference but I don't want an adjustable STB (which I suspect the others are). All my cars have fixed/non adjustable STBs and it's the only way to go, once it's adjustable, it does little to adding rigidity. Anyway this is just a minor setback for me, I'll probably spend $20-30 to get this to fit, no biggie. In your case, it is quite a problem since the angle doesn't even match. Keep us updated on your project.

Default After 3 Hours of Labor

Well, it fits now. Had to use a tungsten carbide cutter to elongate the bolt holes. I use additional two washers (3/8" or 10mm) on each stud on top of the supplied washers. This thing is so solid, I think I can lift the whole car by the STB I want to include a few pictures, but I don't know how to embed pictures in this kind of message board and they are not online, sorry.
