Default New LS400 owner!!!

HI FOLKS! Lexus hater turned fan (LS models only..so far) over the last month. I sold my MX5 a month and a half ago while it is still in season. Bought this beauty thinking that I need something to hold me over for a few months until I leave for the Army. The way this new love affair is going... I might end up keeping the car for longer, **** me!! lol!!

So, two weeks ago I bought a 1997 LS400 with 228K miles for $1200. It is a very very dark green sparkly color. The outside of the car is a little beat up since it was in the city (Chicago), but who cares? Nothing that a bumper swap or 2 cant fix!!

Engine runs great, shifts great, doesn't overheat, idles fine, AC blows cold, Heat works great, etc etc etc. The interior is black leather and it is in very good condition. By the sound of it, the EGR tube is definitely cracked.

So far I have changed the front passenger low beam bulb, that's it. Last time the timing belt was done was in 2005 at 108k miles so I have to look into that as well. Oh and the ECTS ..I will probably attempt that this week.

All in all, I think I made a pretty good buy for $1200.. considering all the other crap that is out there for that much.

Welcome to the club. At least the 95-97 bumpers seem to be plentiful and easier to find than the 98-00 ones.

The good thing about having some bumps on the bumper is you don't have to worry so much about scratching it or something.

See. Look at that. $1200 car he didnt expect to keep, over 200k miles and body damage, and STILL fell in love with it when previously hated lexus... If that doesnt add fuel to the "LS400 is the best car ever made" fire, I dont know what will lol

welcome!

Probably the most enthusiastic post I have read on here, haha.

It's old, simple and by the looks of it, it makes me feel good. I'm a huge fan of old simple cars that have class. The LS400 adds reliability to that mix, lol. I

welcome and yes def take care of that timing belt if it has not been done for over 100k miles already. these are interference engines. there a few threads here to show you how to do it yourself, if you are so inclined.

Thanks for a wonderful welcome to both of us new ls400 owners, simple great built cars amazing amazing. I will never let this car go like I did to my 1989 civic lx that was also a great built car, in the past year I had to replace 2 cars due to engine head gasket and transmission slipping "chevy venture & buick park avenue" both mid 2000 and already gave me tons of issues. I also welcome Imolas4 for getting a great buy I am exited on what progress and modification will be done in the future.

Just bought a 1995 ls400 174k miles for $2000. Exterior is not good but interior is not too bad, except front driver and passenger seat.

Is $2k a fair price?
Thanks.

I think the time has passed to ask if the price is fair if you already bought it. From what little you have explained, which isn't enough to make a fair assessment, I wouldn't have paid 2k for it. Unless seller provided extensive, and I mean EXTENSIVE, maintenance records. Tb/wp changes, throttle body cleanings, clockwork oil and trans fluid changes, ecu caps replacement and so on.
