i need some help. I recently bought a 98 Ls400 when I was having problems with my BMW. I've got the BMW at 100% now and am trying to sell the Lexus. She has about 200,000 miles, but runs smooth as hell. Interior is in great shape, body and paint is pretty good besides small spots on the pumper and a small dent on the rear quarter panel, small crack in windshield and strut rod bushings need replacement.


So I had an ad posted for the car for only $3500 and it indicates it has 200,000.....I get no replies .

I post an add not indicating the miles and I'll get tons of replies asking for the mileage , then once I tell them I never get a reply back. Nobody has even come to test drive the car because they are scared of the mileage . The sad thing is the engine and ride in this car are better than me 10 year newer BMW. I would keep the Lexus and sell the BMW but I need to pay it off and already decided I want an 07-08 ls460 as my next car . I've been a BMW guy since day one and this Lexus I've had for a few months has changed my mind .

Any help on selling a high mileage car ? Is there something wrong with the price ? Is the car not desirable ?

If you were closer to me I'd buy it. No issues with that many miles for me. That is a fantastic car. Had one and loved it.

It could be that it is time for a new timing belt and water pump and that scares others off,($1000+) let them know what you know about the car....
where in Texas are you? just curious?
list it on craigslist and a buyer will come along... just wait..
I already have 2, 99's and one has 242k on it....

The belt and pump could be it also. But some of the other cars I see going for the same price usually need more work and aren't a lexus so I think I just need to be more patient . But I am in San Antonio by the way.

Most cars from that year will have close to 200k on them if not more. The TB is definitely a deal breaker for those not mechanically inclined and not looking to put more money into the car. The price seems right to me so just be patient.

Be patient. Potential buyers would be looking for that second timing belt service so knowing that, the anticipation of spending $4,500+ is going to change their buying perceptions. Otherwise clean LS is just waiting for that special owner, hang tight.

Beyond that, people would rather have a pristine car ready to drive instantly. Not a pristine car that has some immediate or upcoming service. Get it fixed first, adjust the price accordingly.

Older cars with higher mileage take time to sell, is a specific car looking for a specific owner to buy it, I think its priced very well indeed actually.

Any car I have sold, of the many, take between 3-8 weeks too sell if priced reasonably, so be patient. I also make a video now of the car, post it on youtube and include it in your ad, people will buy it sight unseen if you have a quality video of the car for them to see.

When it comes to these cars, it takes specific buyers or people like myself who are newbs to lexus and looking to get into an LS. Just be patient and lower the price if you have to. Second timing belt change might be keeping people at bay, but like I said, it takes a specific buyer.

Thanks for the advice. Yeah, I wish the car would have had some type of maintenance records as far as the tb goes before I bought it because it would make it easier to sell. But once I test drove it , I wasn't too worried.

its all in how u approach the ad..most people aren't aware that ur ls 400 is barely broke in...why u would go to a ls 460 is a mystery. they aren't near the car as far as reliability is concerned. I would dump that bimmer if I were u and keep the ls

hell, my 1993 was listed for $3000 and it had 165k on it and I was worried he wouldnt take any less. LS400s dont have a strong following as far as being sold, because nobody really sells them for other people to drive them and fall in love with them. Mine had the same owner from day 1 all the way to 150k. If it wasnt for the accident, the old geezer wouldnt have bought the LS460 he has now lol You cant just sell an LS400 to anyone. They either have to know a lot about them, or jack **** about them. I knew jack about them when I bought mine lol

People get put off by high milage, but you really need to know the car, or know jack ****.

I actually have both cars up for sale. But the Bimmer is financed through the bank and a 6 speed, which is making it a hard sell also.
