Default non wood package 98 convert to wood?

this question is a two parter. Im seeing a lot of well priced attractive 98 LS's and would love to buy them except for they dont have the wood package. Is the only difference between wood and non wood just the shift **** and steering wheel, easily and inexpensively being switched to wood? Or do the differences run deeper complicating things? Thanks guys, would make my buying decision easier.

Also what are the advantages of the 98-00's over 95-97's. Are they as reliable?

here are the differences between years.

as for the wood, yes only the steering wheel/**** wood was an option in 98. 99-up it became standard.

Wood conversion should be as easy as buying the parts and replacing them. Best to do it from the same year though or at least the same generation (as far as the steering wheel goes) to best facilitate matching the steering shaft spline, airbag, etc. Inexpensive? Define inexpensive.

Edit: Timmy beat me to it.

IMO, get a 98+.

btw, just while you mentioned it rugbydad, 99-up wood wheels do NOT fit 95-97 cars without some modding. there are wiring differences that do not carry over. i don't recall if the splines are different however.

well technically the 95-97 is the same gen car as the 98-00, it's just the latter is the facelift version (among other numerous changes mentioned in the link).
