I added 3 oz of Blue Devil Power Steering Stop Leak yesterday and drove it for an hour like it recommends. This morning I noticed a ton of fluid on the driveway, the reservoir is EMPTY!!!

I got the splash guard off and found the leak coming from the PS pump but not exactly where.

I'm hoping it's just the reservoir O-ring but what other damage could the stop leak have caused? It's supposed to be compatible with ATF systems.

I'm planning to have it towed to my mechanic but was wondering what further damage would I do if I drove it there?

While I had the splash guard off, saw that the high side hose/pipe appears to be leaking at the pipe/hose transition fitting. I believe this was the root of my leak so the stop leak prolly wouldn't have resolved that anyway.

You should power wash the engine if your going to track down the leak whether it's the O-rings or something else.

I could take off the reservoir and see if there is any fluid still in the pump. That should tell me if it was the reservoir O-ring or not, right?

Thanks. As it all leaked out, it should be very apparent where it's coming from. I don't think dye will be needed.

I'm not doing the work, just trying to give my mechanic as much info as possible. He's quite competent so shouldn't need it but makes me feel better.

the o-ring is a slow leak. you might have a larger leak somewhere else such as the IACV and associated hoses.

make sure the fluid did not intrude into the alternator which is directly below the PS pump. the alternator is a very common casualty in this scenario!

No, it wasn't coming from the ACV. Luckily, the dripping missed the alternator so fortunately no worries there, whew!

My mechanic called to say it was coming from the weep hole. He's replacing the pump with a reman'ed one.

How could adding stop leak could cause the pump to go bad?

I wonder if I could/should file a claim or otherwise contact Blue Devil and let them know what happened.

stop leak only will hurt more then help. NEVER use stop leak junk.

true, our cars are very sensitive to fluids especially trans and PS fluid. use only DEX III stuff on the PS and toyota type-IV for ATF.

look at the label, some fluids specifically say "not for use on honda/toyota vehicles", so be aware!

actually our ps systems are not that sensitive..u can use ps fluid, u can also use syn ps fluid if u like. the only ones I wouldn't use is Honda specific fluid..or pentosin stuff..chf..etc etc

Back from the shop... $221 for reman pump, $105 for high pressure hose and $360 labor for both.

If I hadn't added those 3 ounces..... it would have been just $225 for the hose/labor.
