And idler is just a static pully, you cannot check the without removing them, so it's worth while to just replace them while you are in there and be done with it.

My mistake Matt the last 2 digits for the cam seals are 36 not 46 on that site. The only other thing I would recommend is to change the spark plug tube seals while you have the valve covers off.

URGENT !

Sha...I used the 36 as recommended when this post was made a couple weeks ago.

However, last night the i noticed a major leak which was comming from the right cam seal which i changed .

Should I purchase the 9031138046 instead this time ?

That part number ending in 46 does not even come up for ANY 1UZ engine. It comes up for Camry,Celica, MR2 and Rav 4s.

DIY is keeping the cost down. Don't skimp on the parts better to go the extra mile. If your not paying someone to do it that gives you tons more $ to get parts you normally would not if a shop was doing it. Besides a shop would pad the bill with parts.

Ill get the p/n 36 again...

Its only the left side cam seal thats leaking ...mind you i changed both seals a couple mnths ago.

i dont know why it started back to leak all of a sudden.

could it be that the seal turned or something ? how can i prevent that from happening a 3rd time ?

I had to pull my cams since I have a 98 so yours should have been much easier. I did have to make sure the seals did not move as they kept trying to slide so I'm guessing yours moved and did not seat properly.

Thanks Sha... How can I ensure that it doesn't unseat again ? Should put some silicone on that cam seal to ensure it sits ?

Hmmm.. Silicone, always better to be safe than sorry. Since its just the right CAM seal thats leaking, i recon i should remove the left as well and also put silicone there since im doing the job one time...I honestly can't take another oil leak from these cams....im fedup....

Well The FSM (factory service manual) calls for FIPG on my model year to seal the front bearing which has to be removed as well as the camshafts to replace the seal so I doubt that it would hurt anything since it's used to seal the oil pan and various other places on the engine.
