Default 96 LS400 Oil Leak

Good day members, I have a serious engine oil leak , such that I have to top up with 1 quart of oil every 2 weeks. After putting it on the ramp, I noticed leaks from the following areas;

1) Front of engine = Crankshaft Seal

2) Top half of engine = Tappet Gasket

I therefore would appreciate any part numbers or links where I can purchase the above for my 1996 LS400 with stock 1UZ-FE.

Since im in there one time I mite as well change my timing belt ?
Is there any kit that includes these 3 ?

Your feedback is appreciated.

Kit that includes all 3? Not sure. Sewell sells a kit that includes the crank seal and the timing belt, water pump and a few other things. With CL discount it comes out to ~$450. If you search rockauto, I'm sure you can find the three of these parts for fairly cheap even with them being OEM.

Anyhoo here are the OEM Part #'s

Valve/Tappet cover gasket: 11213-50020
Timing Belt : 13568-50010
Crank Seal: 90311-43004

Now as far as the timing belt change goes, when was your last timing belt/water pump service? That should help determine exactly how much to replace and subsequently how much to spend.

If your tb, wp are fairly new I'd reuse them but if they're due for service soon I'd do them all. Since your LS has interence engine replacing cam seals will be little tougher since you need to remove valve cover gaskets first.

Thanks man.
I bought the car a year now. I havent changed it since. I dont believe the previous (first) owner ever changed it..What could be the symptoms of an old timing belt ? Besides it running the risk of bursting, etc.

Your '96 has an interference engine. If the timing belt breaks, the pistons will run into the valves and ruin the engine, probably beyond repair (certainly beyond economical repair).
However, the TB is very robust and will probably outlast the 90K replacement interval by a lot.

KA8 I don't think the valve covers need to be removed on the 96 LS (if it's the same as the 95 LS) to change the cam seals only the sprockets. Secondly, make absolutely sure you don't scratch either the cams or the crank when you change the seals otherwise you will prematurely tear up the seals and the leaks will come again very soon.

You can get all the parts at a local auto parts store NAPA, Oreillys etc. Have you ever done work on engines such as 1UZFE?

1) My UCF21 with stock 1-UZ has an interference engine ? whats the complications of it being an interference ?

2)Nope, never opened up a 1UZ before. What do I need to be careful of/ know of and what should I change one time since im changing these front crankshaft seals and tappet gasket ( besides the timing belt ).

Given that the car has done about 180,000 Km with no repairs ever done to the internal of the engine. Maybe thats why so many oil is being lost, these gaskets have seen better days.

3) How many CAMS do I have ? I was informed that I should also change my CAM seals. Whats the part number for these cam seals as well ?

Thanks guys, yall are alot of support.

1) the implications of a timing belt snapping on an interference engine is that the pistons will most likely come into contact with the valves and DESTROY the engine.

2) You just have to make sure you follow the timing belt removal procedure very carefully and most importantly set the crankshaft at 50 degrees past top dead center (PTDC).

2a) Here's the best way to remove the crank seal. It's for an ES but the concept is the same.

2b) What is a tappet gasket? I'm guessing you mean the valve cover gaskets. This link is for a 98-00 but should be close enough and give you an ideal of what needs to be done.

3) You have an intake and exhaust cam on each side of the engine but each side only has 1 cam seal. Lucky that you only have to remove the cam pulleys to change the seals since you have a 96. Here's a good read.

Do you really have a UCF21? Check the VIN placard on the driver's door frame.
UCF21 designates a car with factory air suspension, not (as has been posted here previously) the year(s) of manufacture.

yes the OP has a celsior! we have already addressed this before! use the Aisin TKT-030 kit!
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls4...or-not-to.html

the timing belt interval is every 90k miles, and usually most UCF20s should have had at least one timing belt change by now. most TB kits come with everything you need including the crank seal.

Thanks Sha4000. Always helpful.
You guys are correct, my vehicle is a 1996 Celsior with VIN UCF 21-0010852.

Trying to keep cost down, so im just changing these;

1) Front Crank shaft pulley seals
2) Timing Belt
3) 2 Valve Cover seals
4) Camshaft seals---------------------still need part number------

Does anyone know ONE online seller that I can get these items from most reasonable ?

you NEED to also change the idler bearings and water pump while you have it all apart, otherwise it's a waste of time.

I've personally never seen an LS400 timing belt fail, but i have seen the idler pulley seize, shred the belt, and destroy the engine.
