I just put wagner thermal quiets on my 98.... and turned the rotors... had 145k on them.
Rotors turned for $35 at local shop.
Pads cost about $65 from same - O'Riellys
Brake fluid - $6
And did the labor myself...with help from my dad.. full bleed and fluid swap on the front brakes.
I'd think you should get front brakes done for around $200 or so.. but your mileage may vary, of course.

:-) the fact that I think you recognized that I can't even use a screwdriver....is a nice thing! So yeah the $200 is about right for me....

I think the current charge for front or rear brake pads for an LS400 is around $225 here in Kansas at the indie Lexus/Toyota repair shop I've used for nearly 20 years. That includes OEM pads and turning the rotors. Add another $60 or so if a brake wear sensor needs to be replaced.

Brake pad replacement is recommended when the pads are worn down to 1 mm. A favorite scam of some repair shops and my local Lexus dealer is to goad customers into replacing pads at when they are worn to 3 or 4 mm since even that much looks pretty thin to the uninformed.

Front brake pads on the 2000 LS400 I recently lasted for over 70,000 miles each of the two times I had them replaced. I had the rear brake pads replaced for the first time at something like 140,000 miles and they could have gone a little longer.

My point is to make sure that that your pads really need to be replaced. Otherwise it's like flushing money down the porcelain receptacle.

it all depends on what needs replacement. Just pads and turn the rotors should be in the ballpark of what Kansas told you. If you're replacing pads, rotors & wear sensors at both ends that price could double.

I have been quoted $1,000 (including taxes) for front and rear pads, rotors and wear sensors by a former Lexus mechanic in Markham.

For DIY, the pads cost $40 for the front and $40 for the rear. I have to check for the parking brakes as I feel them getting loose.

My car's a 96 and it takes 2 wear sensors, both on the passenger's side.

Please update and let us know how much it cost.

Do this, find a decent shop and get them to install.
Probably cost you $120 for install ($60/axel).
