Just finished my first tank of gas in my newly acquired 98 and got 577 with about a gallon left in the tank. On my old 97 I never broke 500... ever!

My commute is 95% highway but I have been really impressed with the 98.

Does the 5th gear make THAT much of a difference or was my 97 under performing mileage wise?

Has anyone gotten over 600 on a single tank in any LS?

holy **** u guys get this much on one tank in a ls400? haha how do u drive. i drive in LA nd floor my 90 ls400 around nd i get about 250 mileas to a tank. when i calculated me driving like a grandpa keeping rpms down as much as i can i got 17mpg nd like 350 the tank

'98+ cars have a lot more different than just the transmission. They have more economical and powerful engines thanks to the DIS and VVTi, better aero, and continue to be lighter than the 1st generation cars by several hundred pounds.

I have heard of '98-00 LS400's getting as high as 27-28 or so mpg on sustained highway cruises at lower (55-65mph) speeds. That nudges over 600mi on a '95-00 tank.

I don't get an all highway run to test. Ours has nudged 490 miles with a low 2.1 gallons in the tank. The in town slugging kills it and these days if the drive is less than a 10 miles straight run I take the Corolla out.

I made 497 miles out of a tank in my '97...I wanted so bad to hit 500 but when I filled up there was less than half a gallon left. If memory serves me I got 26.8 MPG.

I just got 530 miles out of 19.2 gallons on my 1996.
So I got 27mpg, and would have gotten around 600 miles out of my full tank.

That was with a bit of stop and go, and AC on 100% of the time.

My 1999 gets 26-27 Hwy and the 2000 gets 24-25 Hwy. Both cars have the same tires (Michelin Primacy MXV4 V-rated) and are driven in a similar manner. Maybe the 2000 is still in the break-in period.

Partially it was a 9pm takeoff from Boston so on a Friday so I could drive nearly the whole tank down to 1/4 tank until the first fillup.

Also anticipating the hills ala truckers helped.

Got 28.8 at 135300 regular highway driving and 29.5 at 138K the long trip.

I think I actually got 32 for a while but don't have any piictures to show y'all!

Mileaage got better the longer I drove it!

MPG depends on how fast are you driving!

driving on highway at speed of 55MPH would give better MPG than 80MPH

This all depends on the RPM

higher speed = higher RPM = Low MPG

Extra gears means lower RPM which results in Higher MPG

My dad got 30.1 on a trip back to socal from Yuba city. At the time I weighed around 280 and my dad 290, driving at the magical 79 mph. We were so impressed.
