I was going to change my brake hose when the metal line attaching to the hose broke. The car is a 1990 Lexus ls400 with 373670 miles on it. Is there any way to mend the line or how would i go about replacing it.

did the line itself break or just the fitting? if the fitting broke, it can be replaced though it is not that easy. if the line broke, a new one will need to be made or you will need to get another line from the junkyard. i say get a line from the junkyard.

I believe it was the fitting on the end of the metal line. It was the part that connects to the brake hose. How would I go about fixing the fitting?

buy a flaring tool kit and a new fitting. cut off the flare just enough to slide the fitting off, slide on new fitting and reflate. if the line is in good condition and you didn't cut too much, you should be able to rebend the line with maybe only ½" loss in the line.

if the line is at all rusty, i suggest getting a replacement line if there is a junction block close by or make a new line from a point on the old line that is in good shape. you'd still need a new fitting and flaring kit but also a union fitting and a pre-assembled ready to bend line. most decent auto parts storers should carry these things.
