Default What is this?? (Sealant on back seat mount)

Just wondering why I have this "silicone" stuff "painted" all around my rear driver seat 1991 LS 400? And also what is this little hidden **** back there also? On my passenger side its covered with the original cover but on the drivers rear it appears to of been ripped off at some point for access.... Thanks in advance.

Just about every Toyota I've been into has rubber type seal/adhesive around various welds. I don't recall my LS looking quite like this but I've not studied it to much to recall. Last time I had the back seats out has been about 10 years ago. You can probably find it if you pulled out the trunk liner on other welded joints. My take is that it cuts any vibrations-transmission of noises between gaps from when the body is built up.

that's not silicone, it's seam sealer. used on pretty much all production cars in the past 20 years.

yep seam sealer, that looks OEM. as for that hole, it might be holding a bracket or brace on the underside of the car, for a wire harness or the like. it doesn't seem to be ripped off, it could just be stuck on the seat cushion.

Wow I feel like an idiot now when you put it like that PD, the reason I asked is because I've seen photos of someones rear seat in the LS with none of that visible seam sealant, so it threw me off a little.

Also I don't know why it censored the word k *** on here but in that second photo you can see a "head" for a pin or something, and you can see the foam "shield" that once covered it and has been removed and pushed to the right of the hole, my passenger side "shield" has never been removed, and I see no mention of what this is for in my FSM, I was in a hurry and wasn't exactly clear on my concern about what that thing is for.
