Hi,

So I have a 1991 and it was kinda banged up. Rear ended someone...

Anyway, damage isn't too too bad. Gonna get my hands on a parts car. But the car with the best body condition I've found so far is a 1993.

I understand that there were some changes between 1991 and 1993.

I need to know if I can use the hood, grille, lights, front bumper, rad support(s), radiator, and all the bracketry up front from the 1993. Will the all just bolt up? Are they the same parts? Or are there subtle differences that won't let me use them? Basically, I need everything up front.

Next question. How about the transmissions in the cars. Are the trannys both identical, especially with respect to electronics? Just plug it in and go?

Brakes seem straightforward. I'd need to swap pads, rotors, calipers and carriers, yes? Other than that, they bolt right up, no problems?

All body parts should bolt right up but I dont know if there were any changes to the ECU to control tranny shift points and what not.

As far as I know there were no body changes between '90-92 and '93-94 LS, so it should be direct bolt-on.
However, brakes did chage from one piston to two, which required bigger wheels to fit bigger calipers. I would go for bigger calipers, as it will improve your braking, but that means you have to upgrade to 16" wheels. Hopefully your parts car has 16" wheels on it already so just use those.

Most of the rest is also the same - transmission, cooling system, lights , all the plastic pieces in the air intake area and so on.

The ECU has no compatibility between a 91 and a 93. Toyota has changed the engine management system for 1UZ-FE in August 92. There are several changes and the biggest one is the O2 sensor. It was changed to use a O2 sensor with a built-in heater.

OK so basically I can use all of the body parts: hood, grille, front bumper and brackets, radiator and rad support, etc., so a 1993 parts car will be suitable for my needs in repairing the accident damage.

However, I can't expect to make use of the transmission.

The rocker panels are different on 93-94. If you get a 93+ you can put those rocker panels on yours.

Yamae, I just compared the two o2 sensors on rockauto, one for 1990 LS the other for 1994 LS and they are both Denso and they identical.
Does that mean that I have O2 sensors with heater in my car but my ECU is not ready for it?
I know that there have been some newer ECUs recommended for 1990 LS, and I believe that's what I have (higher part number). Could it be that newer ECUs for 1990-1992 LS was changed for heated O2 sensors?
(I am in California if that means anything - our ECUs are different than other states)

what about the accessories, like alternator, and maybe the power steering equipment?

I've got the 1993 parts car now, and I'm planning on pulling off basically everything I may need to use ion the future before it gets sacrificed at the body shop

Alternator - I know at some point around that time they changed the plug (oval vs. rectangular, I think), but the rest of the alternator was the same. It could be that this change was after '93. Either way, I'd keep the Alternator.

Will you ask Rockauto your question regarding their selling parts and confirm?

They mix things often and their catalog is not fully authentic to me. For an example, they sell spark plug cables for a 98. It has a direct ignition system and there is no spark cable at all. They mostly sell the right parts inexpensively, but I sometimes have problems buying parts from them. I had big problems buying Mercedes parts but for Lexus parts so far just some though.

hey guys,

are there any suspension differences across the years? I'm wondering what allows the 93-94s to run with much taller tires.

Also, does the cat back exhaust have any differences? Can I pull the stock cat-back system from the 93 parts car and just install it into the 91?

Oh also, we found out the hard way that the air conditioning systems are quite different.
