Evening everyone,

I am going to attempt to take off my intake manifold to troubleshoot a coolant leak left by the local Toyota dealership on my '92 non-trac LS400, and need some experienced advice. If any of you have done this already (and I am sure more than a few have!), can you post/list all the little bits and pieces you have had to replace - gaskets, O-rings, sensors, connectors, etc., with their related #s if possible?

I took this car to the dealership (not Lexus, since the nearest one is over 200 miles away) to have the valve cover gaskets replaced, and after they talked me into doing the ball joints, spark plugs, timing belt, etc., (total bill was over $3500), they returned her with a slow leak, the wiring loom loose near the firewall, and several bolts missing around the passenger side valve cover, and I see the fluid pooled under the intake manifold!!! I am pretty handy with a wrench, but it would be helpful to know in advance which gaskets, possible broken connectors, would need to be replaced before I begin, so I have these things on hand and not have to wait a week or so to get back on the road

Now, I don't know if you plan on replacing the valve cover gaskets again, but there are some tips in that link which explain how to do it really well so that new gaskets last until the car dies.

as for gaskets, go to rockauto.com and do a search for:
"BECK/ARNLEY valve cover gasket for 1992 lexus ls400 "
It will show you many options, but the best one is the one that costs $36.79 - that one is for both sides, so you only need one package.

The other gasket you need is lexus part number 22271-50010 which is just a cardboard gasket for throttle body. Since your mechanic did a lousy job, I imagine he did not clean the throttle body, so you may as well do it. There will be a thick layer of carbon in there, which often creates problems with throttle and accelleration. Cleaning procedure is also explained at that link above.

So not too many gaskets, only those two.

I will give it a go, since I am getting weary of having to constantly replace the coolant
