Default 2000 LS Foglight HIDs (updated)

I've seen a few fog light topics lately and made me want to play with a spare set I had.

They are matchbox projectors from theretofitsource.com

Will be interesting to see the light pattern on an evening shot.

the problem is the fluted lenses negates literally any advantage putting projectors in the housings has over running a straight 9006/9005 hid kit.

Clear lenses would be a big upgrade, but would have to be made one-off.

I was thinking the same thing. Surprisingly the cutoff isn't to bad. Here is a quick pic, I really want to take it outside and get a night shot.

Man, I need to clean that air conditioner!

looks good! the flutes would scatter the light but not by much if the projector is focus correctly. how much cutting was necessary to get the projector to sit?

Almost zero. I did grind a bit of the chrome reflector to make more room for the bi-xenon solenoid linkage.

If I have some extra time tonight I'll try and do the other side and will take more pics.

did you cut the lenses out or did they come off with heat+prying?

Heat and prying.

I used a heat gun around the edges slowly working the lens off.

I did it 3 times so far. The pair on the car now I did it to remove the factory glare thingys, and the one on my table for the projector. The lenses come off pretty easy.

if that's the case then it may be possible to sand then polish the factory lenses clear...

May need to pickup some extra fogs to test this theory.

You could, but there is a lot of material to remove.

Ok, I messed around with the other projector today and have them finished 80%. I just need to mess around with aiming them.

here are some pics.

driver side projector in, other side just modded with 9005 bulb.

Passenger side in.

Here is the cutoffs with both installed, I have some tweaking to do.

low beams only, fogs off.

so far im very happy with the light output.

I still have to install the wiring harness and relays, as well as the wires for the Bi-xenon solinoid for the highs. So right now these are being run off the factory harness. I was too excited to see what they looked like.

Here is a little how to, or what i did. for those that are interested.

stock fog

heat gun.

Heat around the front of the fog, where the lens goes into the housing. GO EASY! slow and steady!

and dont forget about this screw.

gently pry the lens off, if it gets difficult use more heat.

Here is the glare thingy that gives us ****y light output. remove this.

Now these two screws

Now these two screws. then you need to loosen the adjustment screw on the back until the bowl comes free.

Here is the projector.

the shroud need to come off, it doesnt fit.

Thats better!

Now things are going to get scary for some of you. After this you are committed.

We need to modify this.
